Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Discrete GPUs

How is the AXG team doing with the layoffs? I see they have hired a new VP, so this group isn't getting axed yet?

Leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Shooting ourselves in the foot for no good reason. Charity pretending to be a corporation at this point

@6jqu+1jVQiTNM -- It has to be as it is intel culture. Intel is family company.

Will there be more rounds starting next year?

I suppose if you're somebody who knows somebody in AXG, so to speak, then you're safe

Purging has started in AXG. Hard workers getting laid off instead of seniors and middle management.

Hearing second hand that some engg folks in AXG were put in CPM this past week. Some posts on LinkedIn and Blind too. Does this mean that the process is complete for AXG or is there a second round?

Discrete GPUs are soldered on notebook motherboards; integrated GPUs are integrated within the same die or package of CPU, so nothing wrong with Jon Peddie’s taxonomy. Intel does expand beyond integrated GPUs.

Jon Peddie... that explains it. He carries some weird definition of gpu. Intel most certainly does not have 4% share of discrete graphics adds in cards. Riser cards in a notebook is integrated.

Intel does have 4% discrete gpu market, according to the latest Peddie report. https://wccftech.com/q3-2022-discrete-gpu-market-share-report-nvidia-gains-amd-intel-in-single-digit-figures/
Hey, 4% is not too bad.

Intel wishes it had 4%
In reality it's a number that rounds to 0.

🤣 Intel has 4% of the GPU market? Ridiculous. Spent billions and billions on discrete gfx. 4% isn't true.

Intel now has 4% of all discrete GPU market. It’s not satisfying but still better than 0%. Although late already, discrete GPU is one of the few areas to grow our revenue. The problem with AXG is its execution, second class engineers and third world management.

New VP, great that will fix it. Intel has been failing at discrete graphics for decades and decades. Just let it go. This is the textbook definition of Competitive Irrationality -- ignoring all facts and continuing to invest just to beat Nvidia.

Following. I work in AXG and they said "late November/Early December" notifications for layoffs. But there is zero communication other than that
