Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Fired, what can be done?

So i got fired.

Not because i was bad at work, not because i had bad dealings with my customers, but because of my beliefs and stance.

And, it seems from all the companies that i applied for, Cisco has a hand in companies blocking me from getting hired.

Any suggestions how to fight this back?
you fired me, so why do you continue this bs?
I'm not even getting a chance at an interview.

This is my reward for dedication and hard work. Just because some snowflakes didn't like me.

Why don't you gather a few of your cisco oathkeeping proudboys and go take over building 11??

And those check In comments are saved. I’ve seen the files and it’s so easy to search through for radical rhetoric and see who added it and who liked it. It all boils down to don’t be stupid. You aren’t going to convert anyone by typing about your personal views in a company space (but it would be useful supporting proof to get someone fired for creating a hostile work environment).

OP displayed an astonishing lack of discernment. The irony is that I don't think he's realizing it. Look at how many employees post out-of-place comments in Check-ins. Cannon fodder.

black listing?

Really? The 50’s want their language back.

What did you expect - a free speech award..

No, that goes to the CEO of YouTube (one of the most censoring platforms out there) who gave herself an award for free speech.

What on earth were you doing discussing your "beliefs and stances" with anyone but your bestie? (and even then I wouldnt do it with any work besties - you never know other's sensitivities, issues or how PC people can be).

Ive seen some fools who did that over BLM (while a black presenter was discussing their own awful experiences with racism and just after some prominent police shootings..).

What did you expect - a free speech award..??

Unless you broke some HR legal regulation Cisco is not going to mention anything, and Im highly doubtful even then..!

Golden rule at work at any place; Keep your political opinions and any woke discussions to yourself, or only with very close and known colleagues, and leave out any comments on corporate boards and check ins. Let the corporate bozos and id--ts think what they like, just keep your head down. If you want to be political then run for office outside of Cisco. Corporate world is no place for shouting off your opinions, whether they ask for them or not.

you should feel lucky and be thankful for what Cisco did to you giving you the opportunity and opening many doors while you did nothing but closing all of them. Cisco won’t waste time and energy black listing you. this is the ridiculous thing I have ever heard. what it sounds like it reading all the posts above that you were a really bad/tra.. engineer and team player. you get what you deserve and I’m sure Cisco gave you numerous of opportunities before they placed you where you belong. good luck finding that next role at Publix Deli so you can master your Customer service skills. 🤡

Maybe it's your resume, or the fact it has Cisco on it, that is preventing you from getting any interviews?

What can be done? You can focus on sharpening DevOps skills until the numerous hiring freezes are lifted.
Be realistic about the time and effort required to get a new job.

Work on explaining your firing in terms that don't raise a red flag. Research this on line, you're not the first.

You will need professional references, so ask people that know you are a good worker and professional.

How exactly would Cisco block your application at other companies? It's not like there's a hotline that gives instant access to HR you know. And would Cisco know where and when you're applying? And why would another company believe an anonymous Cisco caller and take their word at face value? I can start seeing why you got fired. Let me guess, you see conspiracy theories everywhere and feel compelled exposing all of them. Am I getting close?

@oxb+1jWcW2Vu / OP: If you didn't choose to talk about your beliefs at work, then how did Cisco find out what your beliefs and stance were?

How did you get pushed into a corner? You had to get a jab? While I disagreed w/ Cisco's decision to force the vaccination, they were hardly unique in doing so.

I got the vaccination just like I get every other vaccination: MMR, Polio, Tetanus, Hepatitis A/B, Meningococcal B, Pneumovax, Shingles, and Flu shots. If the Chicken Pox vaccination had been available when I was a kid, I'd've gotten that one too, just like I forced my kids to get it. So, in that regard, Cisco didn't force me to do anything I wasn't already in line to do already. And, Cisco was nice enough to let me work from home from Mar '20 to now, so I didn't have to be in close proximity to those who did refuse to get the shots.

If that's your "stance", then I bet you're one of those people who'd come into the office in the winter months with a cold or flu and not give a sh-t about spreading it to your co-workers.

I bet you don't like the groups Cisco donates money to. If you don't like their "woke" contributions, go work for Chick-Fil-A. I understand they're very conservative. Cisco, and other companies, make political donations to politicians who have beliefs I don't believe in, but they do it because that person is on some committee or is sponsoring some bill that affects their business and they want to encourage that politician to vote in the way that helps the company make money. It's the capitalist way. Do you really think Cisco is "woke"? They're just being blown in the direction they think the political winds are blowing that will benefit the company the most. Ignore it, do your job and make your own political contributions where you want to. He-l, Cisco has plenty of left AND right wing organizations that you can contribute to and they'll match your contributions, so don't tell me Cisco is all woke. It's capitalistic.

And lastly, how the he-l is Cisco blacklisting you at other companies? You really think that? It's probably the huge chip on your shoulder causing you to trash talk Cisco in the interview and no prospective company want's to hear it. They know you'll do the same to them when you leave. Many people on this forum think having Cisco on your resume means that your skills are out-of-date and that you basically only know legacy technology, so prospective companies don't want you. I haven't found that to be the case, but that might also be why and not some active, vindictive action by Cisco. Trust me, you're just a number at Cisco and they could care less about you. No one at Cisco is going to waste their time trying to blacklist you anywhere. You're not worth their time or effort.

I would say "Wake up and smell the coffee", but then you'd just say I'm some woke lefty and you'd be wrong. I'm an old fa-t who's been around the block a few times and graduated from the school of Hard Knocks. When I read your original post, the way you were whining about your treatment, you were the one that came across as the snowflake. :-) Post your Amazon wish list link here and I'll buy you some cheese to go w/ your whine.

Why do people know your beliefs and stance at work? Just sell the switches and routers

Typically people that can't land another corporate job go into a few industries:

  • teaching
  • consulting (dead-end)
  • realtor (dead-end)
  • government job
