Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Slow projects

Things that once did not need speeding up are now moving at a snail's pace. Have you noticed how projects have become much slower than expected? The reason for this is not clear to me at all.

You mean like Customer Zero team? From the fields perspective there is no value from this team because they're supposed to provide feedback to the BUs on new code and apps but everything still either is riddled with bugs and lacks real world features our customers actually need. If Cisco wants to save money and restructure things they should start with money pits like this one.

I’ve seem many 1-3 month projects not ship by the 3 year mark over nearly 20 years in PI/PD routing/switching. It seemed an even split between engineering and management incompetence.

Can anyone even name another company where it was common for major branches to complete the night build only once or twice a month and sometimes fail to complete for months at a time? Management commonly directed people to check in code they knew wouldn’t compile because there is no metric for that but there was a metric for number of checkins per week, and if the employees dashboards were red so was the managers.

Personally even though I'm very low LR risk, my motivation is down the toilet. I am truly appalled by the behavior of this ELT. Guess I'm not the only one.

It is the slow time of the year, but it's more than Dec 12 and holidays. There are quality issues and competitive weaknesses at play. Dec 12th is only going to make things worse.

There's zero accountability, Cisco is not a performance based company.

  • the project could be delayed to rename it and ask for more funding (empire building is important at Cisco)
  • the project could be on the chopping block eliminating the employees
  • it's an inconsequential pet project of a VP while he/she is interviewing at other companies for a new stock grant/sign-on bonus

Simple answer-No one cares anymore
Everyone is either working part time, looking for another job, and/or working two jobs
