Optane ki---d but $3.5 Billion commited for 3d packaging - https://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/inno/stories/news/2022/06/22/intel-excutive-expansion-plans-rio-rancho.html

Its busier than it has been in a looong time. The old workforce not too happy with all the work... No headcount reduction action, voluntary or otherwise, which has upset some that were hoping for an exit bonus. Fab 9 is being retrofitted with giant crane to do a lot of the packaging and the fab is finding ways to fill across multiple tangential technologies. One of the few sites that will show growth even during layoff period.

@3slj Over the years there’s been some environmental concerns pushback from a neighboring community (Corrales) aimed at the site. This may be one of the factors influencing the Ohio decision.

@3sl If what you mean by “ they” is BK then yes BK tried his best to close that site but since he was kicked to the curb Intel has tried to put RR to work… it’s fully depreciated and the area has an Intel trained work force. Makes sense to do something with it.

Why is the Rio Ranch site still open? They've been talking about closing it for over a decade. I know they were trying to do some Optane development there in 2020, but that's obviously not going to happen now. Why wouldn't they build the new factories there instead of Ohio?
