Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

ESG will ruin ExxonMobil

Meritocracy and ESG don’t go together. You can’t set diversity targets and claim to be a meritocracy.

Anyone know of any I&D hires who actually contributed anything? I know of one.

The probably with an “inclusive and diverse” workforce is that often times companies (EM included) sacrifices talent to achieve some arbitrary “diversity score”, which does nothing to help the bottom line.

Over the last 10 years the company has gone so overboard on diversity initiatives - it's impossible for a white guy, no matter how good, to stay afloat. It's one thing to provide a little help to certain groups - it's totally criminal to shut out 99% of white males from any meaningful career. Oh they use the ranking system to hide it - they give white males low value work and diversity employees get cushy can't-fail positions and use that to cook the rankings.

In my humble opinion, ESG is like MSG.....too much of it will give you gas, which will result in a very stinky outcome!

Social - are people incapable of getting employment and maintaining it based on their skills and work ethic anymore? Just pathetic that anyone needs to force themselves into a workforce that don't deserve based on something like gender, race or some other identifier that they were defaulted to with zero work or effort. Pathetic!

ESG, in principle is a good thing. Reward companies not just based on profit.

ESG in principal is a good thing.

Environmental Social Governance is to encourage corporations to act responsibly. Investors are increasing looking at ESG as a way to evaluate company's risk and growth opportunities.

Basically, it means
Environment - Take measures to protect the environmental for future generations
Social - Pay fair wages to employees. Have a diverse and inclusive workforce. Safe place to work for employees and support community where it operates.
Governance - Rules apply from the lowest rank all the way up to the board.

You fool. There are so few non-white men at EM that the ESGs don’t stand a chance of making any difference.

I agree in principle that ESG is misguided.

However, EM is more than capable of ruining itself without ESG.
