Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Another Exxon Valdez Required?

What will it take to wake up management? I see so many people working crazy hours and sacrificing their health and family relationships for what? Time for us all to quiet quit or just outright quit before more people get hurt or ki---d.

Even though Dennis Hopper has passed on, I want another Waterworld sequel.
Excess profits tax at 80%, for example.
Subsidies disappearing under the volcano.
Real Sci-FI like Carbon Capture.
Maybe Petey D as Darry W?

Why do people equate to wfh with binge watching shows? It depends on the job, and honestly, some jobs are better done where one can concentrate. Being in an open office doesn’t really help. For software engineering, data science, and any other deep think computational job, being in an active environment is not productive. With Git, remote communication tools, etc. being in person has plenty of downsides to both parties. Occasional meetups are great, however. Also - please elaborate on small ideas making a big difference. Sounds cheap.

Wishing for anything bad to happen, either environmental or human impact, is wrong. Today part of the issue is distractions from personal technologies on productivity, in addition to absence of connecting to the work and the people. Some would rather binge a show and WFH, or a position outsourced to remote, which does actually put those in the field at a higher risk. Less meaningful input, less interaction on small ideas that can make a big difference. People can be the difference, either positive force for change or negative force for complacency.

Environmental disasters tied up in litigation indefinitely are much cheaper to fund than human capital in HC10. Just the cost of doing business in corrupt corporate America.
