Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Should Pat also be gone?

As a consequence of the inevitable layoffs?
Christie?
Sandra?
MJ?
Others?

Great hopes when Pat took over, but it's been pretty abysmal since.

  • Implement OKRs, but tie it to compensation, which is specifically warned against and counter productive.
  • Hasn't gotten rid of the 'insights' woke review methodology.
  • Still focusing on hiring and promoting based on demographics rather than competence, and rewarding teams based on demographics.
  • Still letting seasoned engineers get sucked up by competitors, and when challenged by it says "go apply somewhere else" if you want a raise.
  • Still using 3% as the "successful" raise at focal, while inflation is through the roof. Then they give us all this stock which even in April was clear it would be worthless before it vested.

And they wonder why we can't execute on new technologies. But hey, at least we have a good ESG score, right? Surely that's more important than running a successful company.

Can you elaborate on 'real deal'?

Being a good engineer from IAL does not automatically qualify one to be a good CEO.

A good CEO needs to set the culture and direction of the company and rely on their lieutenants to carry out the strategy. Do we have good lieutenants? Who are they? What are they doing differently vs. the last 10-15 years?

A CEO is only as good as the people giving him information/reports/metrics.
Execution issues are still here after almost 2 years into his tenure.
Yes, the economy is in the dumpster, but Intel is making a bad situation much worse with poor execution.
He needs to step it up.

I worked in Pat's IAL group years ago and he's the real deal. Can't imagine a better CEO for Intel so I think getting rid of him would be a huge mistake as the structural issues take years to resolve. I do think he shouldn't be making $180M in compensation though. Seems like $20M would be more than fair enough and maybe $100M after he delivers some tangible results in a few years.
