Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Penny Ante Nonsense. Complete Disrespect.

The vacation policy change to a monthly accrual basis is nonsense and tells all XOM employees how little they respect you. Do not let them fool you by telling you they value you. They do not. They value their stock options and reliable dividend payments.

You are simply a liability on a balance sheet to the management. If you have not already, start looking for another employer they values you. If you are a campus recruit considering XOM, RUN AWAY!

Uh, yes, a company can decide to change benefits. The only time this is a problem is if there is an employment contract signed, or there is a union. For most of the US based xom employees, neither of those situations are true.

@1src, what contract are you talking about? No such thing. Like most salaried employees in any industry, your employment has always been year to year - you just didn’t care until you started seeing the consequences. The company may have led you to believe “you have a career for life” but it’s your fault that you didn’t understand the unstated “until things change for us or you.”

Exxonmobil needs to take into consideration they had a multi decade contract with all of their employees and just maybe they have a legal challenge on their hands for removing existing benefits. They can't just decide to take away a benefit agreement that has been in place forever! Oh wait, so many spineless employees will just accept it like Exxonmobil is God or some dictatorship they can't question!! Seriously pathetic employees!

Many companies are going to unlimited vacation and sick time. Actually treating their employees as responsible adults rather than little children.

Actually makes one work more hours and rarely take vacation. That’s the downside.

Many companies give vacation based on monthly accrual. ExxonMobil is just going to cut back benefits so that they are average. Average targets, average results.

Agree with running away if XOM tries to recruit you. Don't be suckered in by the money and prestige. The long hours, disrespect, backstabbing, and the mental/verbal abuse is not worth it.
