I worked in Pat's org in the early 2000s and I'm convinced he's the best person for the job. He's going to have a very hard time over the next couple years, but he's getting paid big bucks to put up with a lot of cr-p and stress. Unfortunately it's going to take a few years to see the results of whatever he's doing now. I've seen that many times in other tech companies like HP and IBM where one CEO did all the hard work and the next CEO got the credit. Don't be so quick to give up on Pat - or if you do, recommend a better alternative with some well thought out reasoning. Easy to blame Pat, but it was BK who got us into this mess and BS who collected a lot of money to tread water and do nothing while the exec search committee took their sweet time to find Pat and/or get over their ego in bringing Pat back (I have no inside info - just guessing there was a little ego involved).
