Will they lay off new hires first

I joined the team last month. How likely will they lay off a new emp in TD group? I work in engg btw

Not usually. New hires particularly from university bring new skills and perspective. People who stay at intel are expected to grow and improve every year that they stay. Some don’t, and become angry and resentful of others. New hires are impacted if you join a group or team where the entire project is ki---d.

The best news intel doesn’t do traditional layoffs. They did once in 2016 and it was called “act” and it was really badly done. (I guess it was supposed to be like act quickly ). You can read a lot about it on this site. But in general they give people a couple months to look for other jobs. There are usually many more jobs available for college graduates and people are early in their career. When senior managers and directors get cut, they also get a couple months to look for jobs but as you can imagine there are less of them.

No one is safe, don't believe what you read here. Politics are played. If you are doing the bare minimum you will be let go. If you are on a short list you will be let go. The managing ranks are full of incompetence and incompetence loves removing anyone perceived as a threat to their intelligence. Narcissism rules.

If you are new and got multiple offers and got suckered to join Intel, get out.

The culture and skills you learn here are not viewed positively outside.

Ten or twenty years ago Intel experience was viewed with awe and respect.

These days being Intel experienced is to be associated with the failure of the last decade.

Young get out don’t wait for the 2nd ACT

Total number of employees to be laid off is ~30k. The current CEO prefers experienced employees as he brought back many old employees. Hence, those in their first year are the most vulnerable ones.
