Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Come on

If you are talented enough, you should've found a better place by now. If you are not, you should be salivating for the cushy package like the Pavlovian dog. Even if you got a C in your algorithm class, you should have expected that Workday (HR software) engineers as smart as you are have worked overtime to come up with the perfect algo to calculate your layoff score based on age, race, past performance, etc. It's an easy quick sort after that.

You should worry about being laid off if:

  1. You are over 40 years old but still didn't make G8. Sorry, you may be good at math and discrete logic but you are so bad in politics.
  2. You are over 60 years old no matter which grade level you are. No, Intel never discriminate against age, according to their expensive lawyers.
  3. You are either white or east asian male. Sorry, not URM enough.
  4. You spent more time on delivering result rather than composing PowerPoint slide that can win an Oscar.
  5. You were not born within 50 miles of your manager's village in certain subcontinent.
  6. Your skip level manager never heard about your name or know what the he-l you do.
  7. You never heard about the term "manage up".
  8. You consider the title TA or Cheif of Staff as trivial.
  9. You still did not wake up from your nightmare at Intel after your first sabbatical.

Found a better job by now?
Why the assumption that companies will be looking for candidates from Intel?
Longer the experience at Intel poorer are the prospects outside of it, wouldn’t you agree?
May be some will have the same luck as the modem group bought by the fruit company?

6 is so important. You can overcome a lot of the rest if you and your work are known by upper management. There are still a lot of people who've been here a long time. You know who they are. Lots of people know who they are. That's why they're still here.

You may be infringing on BK's Machiavelli formula that's still protected by the copyright law.

Most engineers at Intel - if you still consider you are a true engineer - should read this and prepare their resumes.

Nice post describing true criteria at Intel for layoffs. Using these criteria every HC reduction, Intel becomes more in-efficient.
