Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Will new grad hires be affected by layoffs?

Just got hired a month ago with a start in January after graduation with my PhD. Will my job be cut? :(

Are you 'diversity'? If so you can sleep soundly.

You have a PhD. If you are even a little bit competitive, you should not worry about job loss. Just focus on your work. If you get impacted, get a new job. There is plenty of demand in the market. (unless there is H1 transfer wrinkle).

Do you need a Ph.D. to work for intel? Well, then again, not all PhDs are the same. :/

You're an RCG, a noob just starting out in your career. You can still learn a lot of basic industry knowledge and, yes, innovate here depending on your role. It's advancing your career that's much harder. No need for coming up with special rules for working at Intel. One rule, no matter where you are. Take nothing for granted. If you do good work and don't get the recognition you want for it, leave. Don't let a decade or more pass (like many here did) before realizing how unsatisfied you've become.

Not true. I was impacted by ACT 2016 1.5 years after joining.

In the past new hires were excluded from ISP / VSP for two years from their hiring date.

I am in same boat recent college grad and 4 months at Intel. Job position feels like I wouldn’t be affected due to role but if they take a LIFO approach and a 20% actual reduction I don’t see how I wouldn’t be affected

It’s dead end unless you like politics , if you think you’ll advance on your work alone you’re in for an awful awakening.

I didn't know Intel was dead end job? Thought it was a good company and pays well.

You haven't even started working here and already worried about layoff. What does it tell you about working for this company? Why would you want to put yourself through this mess. Find another job. Unemployment is 3.4%? I am sure someone with PHD can do better than Inhell.

What a waste of a PhD! Really? You put all that effort in and then sign up for a dead end job? Sad.
