Just heard that layoff is driven completely by HR with no management involved! Could be that HR figured out managers will save their own family, friends and village folks. Makes sense.

Maybe he/she was drowning in a suspension of sorts, and was slowly being ki---d. We never know.
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve, but get suspended throughout the bulk of the solvent, left floating around freely in the medium. The suspended particles are visible under a microscope, and will settle over time if left undisturbed.
This contrasts with a colloid, in which the colloid particles are smaller and do not settle, and a solution, in which the dissolved substance (solute) does not exist as a solid, and solvent and solute are homogeneously mixed.
