RTO Mileage cutoff

Anyone know how WF calculates the supposed 40 mile cutoff? Depending on route, I’m just below or just above 40 miles. Wondering if it’s worth a try.

As someone else stated WF miles are as the crow flys. I was relocating several years ago and they had different baskets of how much you would get for relocation and how many days off depending on the distance. I looked up the route on my phone and it was easily into the next basket up, but was told they calculate the distance as the crow flys.

40 mile is based on how the crows fit.

Also, remember. Charlie and Saul were clear that the location strategy has not gone away, It is still on the table. So first is RTO from COVID. Then those folks that escaped the location strategy due to COVID are not free. They received a delay in forced relocation or you are out. For now they will allow WFH but once they roll out location strategy you will move or take your package and go. There may or may not be exceptions but i saw highly talented people that upper management felt strongly about and they were not able to keep them. Some folks moved during covid and they were terminated.

My group recently hired a full-time WFH employee. Pick the right role and you're golden.

If there is a state maintained dirt road that is a shorter route than a major highway then they chose the dirt road to pull you in.

keep in mind that the company is moving away hiring/keeping people in fully remote locations (I.e. - more than 40 miles from a wf location).

Many areas will no longer consider internal candidates if they're not at a wf location. I just had someone on my staff leave the company because they got shut down on every internal job they applied for due to FT remote status.

If you are a highly specialized, hard-to-hire skill set - maybe you will fare differently. but most folks don't fall into that category.

Awesome. I identify as being near a hub. In other news, I identify as being in-office and RTO compliant while I'm WFH.

This is what I found out. WF does not do the calculation. They just ask if you’re greater than 40 miles from the office. Manager makes the decision or inquires. Problem solved. Best of luck.

of course it's worth a try. don't give these nearby ripoff parking companies or cheap quality food restaurants a dollar!
