Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Over 65

I'm a 65 year old woman and have worked at Sams for 30 years. I'm very healthy and can still do my job. I have to work, I don't work for extra money. My problem is a 59 year old male team lead that has been calling me old and it bothers me. What should I do, just ignore him?

Aren't you happy you aren't among the young these days? What is wrong with being among the older in crowd?

For those of you who say "quit get another job" don't realize how much we have put our heart and soul to a company that once was appreciative to their associates. Everyone respected one another regardless of age and management listened. The younger associates worked great with their senior teams. To just quit and get another job is no longer that simple. Corporate companies know retirement is around the corner for us therefore considered a hiring risk. We would be going backwards with pay and once again working with younger superiors. Lets ALL work together. The TL who calls someone "old" should know the ramifications of using that three letter word... He will understand soon.

Numb Nut --It's not an 'age decriminalization suit'. The club does not control nor did they direct what was said to her. The company addresses her concerns. At best he has a conversation with corrective action. ( no detail's would be given out). Then and the club will say sorry.

To all those who are saying she is old, shut up. She has invested years in that company, she deserves respect. No one should be calling her old, no team lead, no manager, no one. I'd fight back with an age decriminalization suit.

Hmm? You may want to review the Age Discrimination in Employment Act to see if this guy is in violation of the Act. If he is, I’d skip Ethics/Open Door and go straight to an attorney.

Open door his a-s immediately and hang in there! I too am a female senior citizen associate and I know for a fact that I can outwork these little millennials and young 'uns. Don't put up with any BS!!! Yes, this company still has the "good old boy" club mentality but it needs to change.

The "open door" policy has many repercussions. Ethics doesn't care. It's best to just ignore the punks and go forward with your job. Or find another job and quit. Those are your choices. You are among the few elderly associates that haven't been run off.

If you have actually made it to 65, news flash: YOU ARE OLD! Be very happy about it and happy you are fit enough to still work. Many people never live to even see 65. Laugh with him and joke back about him being a young whipper snapper. Someone of your age should have a big more of a back bone by this time in your life. Laugh along and shug it off or quit and find another job. Employers will take anyone of any age that just shows up in this economy.
There will always be another person that makes a comment you dislike. You gonna turn everyone in?

If she’s been there 30 years, she knows how pointless open door is.

Document when, where, what time, who else heard or was in the vicinity. Keep it written down and hold on to it. You will need it.

At 59 he’s not far behind you. Ask him to stop and if that doesn’t work call ethics.

Agree with taking a humorous track. Or ignore it.
If you think it's a hint or it's going to impact your employment, that's something else & you need a plan.

If I was 65 it wouldn’t bother me if someone said I was old. Be happy. Not everyone lives long enough to get old. If he’s joking, joke back with him. Enjoy life.

You've been with the company for over 30 years, which means you've been told countless times about the open door policy and the many options you have to report harassment and discrimination. Yet, you've elected to come to a third party website with unverified strangers to ask for advice.

What is it that you're really looking for here?
