Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Ethics line

Has anything came out of filing a complaint on the ethics site? Or is everything deemed there isn’t sufficient evidence.

Forget Ethics Line. If you don't have powerful friends, you cannot win by yourself. Put your energy into making many political connections with powerful friends within the company. This is a proven method of being successful in a corporation. It's even written in the MBA textbooks. Additionally, making friends with regulators and journalists might also help.

And rightfully so. They just stirred up drama and made a bunch of people stressed. Likely because they themselves were no good.

Remind yourselves, Ethics Line is still internal, as part of the Wells Fargo entity. Its ultimate mission is to protect the company, not you. If you want to report any unethical conducts without retaliations, report them to the external organizations (i.e. regulators, media, etc.).

Several colleagues of mine who reported their toxic managers to Ethics Line were all let go 6 months later. The toxic managers are still here and one of them even got promoted. I was told that those bad managers had a very powerful friend above. So it all depends on who you know, what kind of political alliance you have.

I did report something and it resulted in a raise and promotion. That was a few years ago and I’m still standing without issue. Stand up for yourselves people. No changes can happen if everyone is afraid to stand up.

Reporting violations, with proof and evidence, to the ethics line does not result in any change or positive outcome. Otherwise, the repeat offenders would not continue to get away with the abusive behaviors that are clearly defined as policy violations.

Yeah and also about as profitable to the company as a union founder. Brutal stuff. I feel terrible for those managers.

@gh+1jgk4vxs3, I have a feeling that you must be a female African American. That is a highly protected group by the DEI policy. Otherwise, all other groups could be expendable.

I must be the only one with a positive outcome. Called ethics line regarding manager and toxic workplace, hostile work environment, discrimination and after a very in depth review, Interview with multiple employees on our team the managers and supervisors involved were let go. The manager had been with wells for 25 years and let go.

WARNING! Do not contact Ethics Line, its a big corporate trap! If you do, you will be red-flagged and will be displaced within the next few months. I know for a fact.

@cb+1jgk4vxs3 So if you are "quietly quitting" and want to be laid off communicating to the ethics line might be a tool in your arsenal. I agree you shouldn't expect anything. Focus on upskilling your career and getting your severance. Its a fine line between irritating them just enough that they put your name for the next lay off. Be nice and don't get fired.

Not worth it - I know a manager who filed a complaint and got displaced a few weeks later. Coincidence? Not likely. Toxic environment, HR not interested in employee well being, buddy system in senior leadership all point to a waste of time reporting anything. Look for another job, it's not going to get any better where you are. Do your job the best you can since you are being paid for your labor, but don't kid yourself that the company has any loyalty to its employees.

Do not call the ethics line unless you want a fast-track to unemployment.

They should rename it the retaliation line. Because that’s what you’ll get.

Exactly what you said. Plus, that reporting line and "any other department similar to them" is all about supporting the company, not the employee at this point in the game. They all want attrition. Facts.

Ive never received any positive outcomes when Ive called them. I had issues with a coworker for over 10 years. Also called about a write up and it was dead in the water. No one ever responded to me. Becareful though. Even though theu say no retaliation, they will watch you like a hawk and nit puck EVERYTHING!

Ugh. Why. Just why! You have no idea how much pain you cause and it’s very, very unlikely your complaint is legitimate.
