Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Lied To When Hired Regarding A Bunch Of Things

By far this company has the worst attitude and morale of any place I have ever worked. Only been here a month and I want out. Have already started sending out resumes again.

They lied and/or misrepresented a lot of things during the hiring:

  1. During interview they said in the office 3 days a week which I was fine with. The first week on the job they told me its now 5 days a week starting in January. Oh and there are not enough desks for everyone. Enjoy!
  1. On the second day of work they had a staff meeting and told us to keep our resumes updated as layoffs will be occurring. Are you freaking kidding me? Day two?
  1. Bridging of service. I worked for an AT&T subsidiary many years ago and they told me they would bridge my service. HR came back and said there is no pension and your service cant be bridged.

So what do I have invested here?

Love how the all-knowing ‘old timers’ on this thread suggest that you should have got these hiring promises “in writing” as if that means anything. We all know it doesn’t. I have 24+ years and I’ve been reminded more times than I care to recount. We are at-will employees and T will play that card every chance it gets.

“ If so, what criteria determines their status as a "retiree"?…”

Go to the Facebook “AT&T Retirement Planning Club” and ask your question there. Many helpful and knowledgeable people there.

"If there is no pension, what exactly does bridging give you?"

J asked the other day if new retirees can get on the AT&T MAPD/EGWP Group Medicare Advantage plan, and someone said that they could. If so, what criteria determines their status as a "retiree"?

I haven't been there for years, but this year, I turned on that company MA, and that is Part A and B costs $900 OOP per year in and/or out of network. A cap that low that takes care of A & B is a nice benefit.

I thought it was worth repeating

Anyone unhappy with their 2025 circumstances has the ability to walk out the door and never return, just as they walked in. Part of being an adult is making decisions to move on without crying like a 3 year old that doesn’t get his way. It’s easy to tell that most of you grew up with time outs and participation trophies. None of you are tough enough to succeed.

The hiring process is always a dance done by both sides.

One side tells you about all the great benefits and flexibilities you'll get, maybe even a title so you can brag to family and friends about being so smart (ha,ha) you got hired into "management", hoping those things that are actually worth nothing will entice someone into taking a lower salary.

The other side tells about how able they are and how willing they are to perform any impossible task and go way over and above, hoping to get hired and maybe start at a higher salary.

If both sides agree to give the other side a try that's when the makeup and the manners of the beginning of the courtship begin to slowly fade away.

Only been here a month?? You don't even have all your logins and passwords yet. You have less than zero invested here, leave if you want, or stay....... it's up to you...

You said you had worked other places, you should know and not be surprised about the course that every employment dance takes after the music has played for a verse or two..

How about after a month in (and negotiating your base salary) you’re told you’re getting a $10k base cut on top of now coming in the office 5 days…what a crock of shįť!

New hires do not get a pension since like 2014. Bridging your time just gives you more to after 15 years of service.

The bosses need to learn the newer non-pension folks aren’t going to put up with it. And they are going to have a very hard time hiring folks with 5x in office since most other places are hybrid or fully remote. Few are 5x. Nothing tying us down here other than the paycheck. I’ll go where there’s a better offer. Hence why I’m currently interviewing with 3 other companies and applying daily to others.

Too late for you. However anyway considering employment with T? WTF just say no and run away as fast as you can. It’s more than toxic. It’s more wicked and evil than you can imagine. Stay away from this cluster. You’ll be glad you did.

Did you do any type of basic research about current conditions at T before accepting the job? It’s pretty clear you didn’t. That’s on you.

I was ok till the second day when they said to keep our resumes updated as they are doing layoffs. All I thought was why the f*** did you hire me? As I was the last in - I know the deal - LIFO - last in first out.

Its all verbal unfortunately.

Did some digging on the bridging, found out that they sold their pension to this other company. I dont know how thats even legal. It doesnt matter and it would not deter me from looking for a job.
