Paid for carryover PTO if displaced?

I carried over 40 hours PTO and planned on saving as long as possible until March 15 deadline to use or lose. Reason being I’m expecting to be let go in Q1 and hoped to be paid for it plus any I accrue. I was told today that when displaced they don’t pay you for carryover from previous year, only what you accrue during current year. Anyone know if that’s true?

You would only get paid for it if your last day is prior to March 15. Also, you might want to use personal holidays, community service, etc before you leave because you won't get paid for those when you're displaced.

Not only are you paid for all earned, remaining PTO but you also earn PTO during your 60-day notice since you're still considered a FTE. It'll be paid in a separate check right between your last 60-day notice check and your 1st severance check. I got paid out for nearly 80 hours in 2023.

You will definitely be paid for ALL accrued PTO. Every time some further employee claims they didn't is a scenario where they assume that they get their full year of PTO hours on Jan 1 and when they left in March they got hosed because they should have got paid for all those days. No, you get paid for what you have accrued thus far in the year. Nothing more, nothing less. They are so afraid of lawsuits in this area that they always pay.

I quit last month and received all my accrued hours.

I was not paid for my "carryover" PTO -- 3 years ago. Don't know the current rules are but they are probably the same.
