Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What I’ve learned RTOing five days a week.

I’ve decided to make the most of it and as of last Friday, I still have a job.
I hate the four to five hours a day round trip I use working for the man.
We don’t have public transportation to our location and parking entails paying for it and a few blocks of walking.
We are monitored every moment on our work-laptops and my manager almost daily informed me I’m not working hard enough.
When we had employees surveys, leaders threatened the happiest locations would be the ones left open.
Collaboration shows first hand everyone is stressed due to the threats of relocation followed by being surplus.
Morale is in the gutter.

“ I’m sure you all are decent folks at heart but perspective and context is important.”

Network Engineering and Operations is like that. You have people working 24/7/365. Due to cost cutting they reduced headcount’s for non-exempts and started making exempts do the jobs of what used to be shift workers; except, without the shift part. So they work crazy hours to monitor and manage the network while also expected to work regular business hours also.

So if you don't live in a war zone, then your time has no value and you are ripe for exploitation. After all, it could always be worse, right?

Really??

Your life is that bad??

Like you’re in a war zone and struggling to feed your family or worse. Hoping more badness doesn’t fall on them.

I’m sure you all are decent folks at heart but perspective and context is important.

Be well, be positive and help others when you can!!

The C suite forgot that once they go to bed, some of us are still working keeping the network running. I’m also sitting in the office right now all alone. Why? There isn’t a single sole in the entire complex.

So why am I here?
Who am I collaborating with?

No, I’m the guy sacrificing my sleep for them, and they don’t even know I exist.

Don’t even have the courtesy to know their own teams and what we do and when we do it.

original post says: "Collaboration shows".....

Ha ha, yes it is a show, they put on the 'Collaboration show' so they never have to take any responsibility and the collaboration is always 'what new bar did you go to over the weekend, where are we meeting for happy hour, where are we going for lunch, did you see the new hottie, I want a sports car but my mom won't let me get it, I got all A's in all my electives in college, I have far too many 'skills' for this job, who can I ask how to do this, just tell me where to click, I don't really want to know how to figure it out by myself............etc., etc., etc............

“ They cannot force you to work more than 40 and if you really do not care about the job and might quit anyway, make them push the issue.”
If you are classified as exempt then they can. That’s a real big problem is misclassification of people so they don’t have to pay overtime.

I’ve learned it’s time to move on. Have some interviews lined up for next week. 2 remote, 1 hybrid job. All of them pay more. All of them keep sane hours. Like I’ve said, all this is doing to removing your top talent and younger workers. 3x wasn’t great and I felt it was d-mb, but complied as I should. 5x is doubling down on stupid, but that’s their prerogative. The ki-ler for me is the loss of flexibility in hours and tracking. I work a ton of hours and used to be able to flex some time here and there, now we aren’t allowed to, but they still expect us to put in extra on nights, weekends and holidays, it just doesn’t count towards your 40. I worked all Christmas and new years as well as Thanksgiving. Didn’t get paid a dime extra for it either. I’m working as I type this and it’s 10pm on a Sunday. It has taken a serious toll on my health and well being, I have no work/life balance and quite frankly, if I don’t get hired at one of these other companies I will resign as soon as I know I’m getting my bonus.

We need to have an open survey in one of the townhalls. Do you agree?

I agree it is absolutely ridiculous that we have to come into office to do exactly what we can do from home. We still all will collaborate through Ms teams no matter where we site. This is just a push to make people quit working for this company.

I’ve learned absolutely nothing from it other than I hate this leadership more than ever before. There is actually zero point of being in the office other than making everyone’s life harder.
