Happened this morning driving to do a job that could be done from home. Now Caleb D. Sends out an email saying we are empowered to make decisions that keep us safe…. Just trying to cover their as--s now that an employee died going in for 5 day RTO. This company is not getting anything extra from me ever again.

Sad, but not the company's fault. But no, you can't be tapped for MDP and expect to WFH.
Below is the GoFundMe for her Cat Rescue. She was an incredible person and didn’t deserve this. On Monday it took her 3 hrs to get to work and then when she got in there was zero parking. She left earlier on Tuesday and was in an accident. Please donate.

“Jeeze, this board has me so jaded, I don't believe anything that doesn't include a source citation.”
Why would that be?
Everything shared here is mostly true.
You haven’t realized that yet?
If you feel comfortable sharing the GFM link, I'd like to donate. Obviously I'm at a different office, but I'll be in ATL by end of Q2.

This is sadly confirmed.
No way it could be the one on MLK. That happened at like 10:30AM. Everyone who was RTO should have already been there.
"Retired" here after "choosing not to follow the work." VO for 25 years.
No 2 hours wasted in commuting every day. No fuel costs (either money or carbon emission). No childcare, and after school strict orders to "stay out of Daddy's office when he's working." And to the point here, never even the potential for a motor vehicle accident, which remains one of the three causes of death for adults under 50 (source: CDC).
It's not a statistical likelihood for any individual, but it is a statistical reality and with thousands of employees now making an unnecessary daily commute, it is a likely event across the AT&T workforce population.
What I did may have seemed like naps and trips to Costco to those who worked in customer facing roles (I know, I was a contingency scab twice), but my WFH output sure seemed important to my director and management. They tried to get an exception and were denied.
Cost of doing business, I'm sure they will be saying. All that collaboration that didn't happen during COVID (or the two decades preceding it). Etc.
Was it the one on MLK?
She should have quit knowing the dangers of driving to meet RTO requirements. This is 100% on her. Poor life choice to stay at T.
If true, we will never hear about it because of being settled out of court with a NDA.
What was her name?
"Nooo you can't sue the company because it makes more work for me!!! You will never win! The courts will throw it out!
You legal department shills are so transparent.
The email from Caleb D was a very nice one empowering people and their supervisors if there is bad weather to use judgement and work from home. If you paid attention you would know there were parts of the country with big weather impacts this week and Dallas and Atlanta may get some later this week. His teams had people out in markets impacted by weather already and expecting more so he was letting us know to be safe. The employee that passed away had nothing to do with the letter about weather. And everyone assuming she used to be WFH and then got RTO are incorrect.
Total disbelief there are so many people on here trying to blame AT&t for what was a tragic traffic accident. (If this is even true because i can only find a reported traffic fatality on Monday is that the incident??). I don’t agree with RTO and the way it was implemented is absurd but seriously to try to claim AT&T was responsible because she wouldn’t have been on the roads is insane. You don’t even know why she was where she was. She may have been in that spot because she drops kids off at school or any number of reasons. I had a hair stylist who came to my house during COVID as a courtesy. Now she wants her clients back in her salon. Her tools are there and it is more productive for her to have clients come to her If i get in an accident on the way to the salon should my family get $50m I was used to in home treatment for a few years and it is her fault i am on the roads. Grow up we are all on the road everyday doing necessary and unnecessary activities. Going to the office to work is just part of it now. You want to call someone an a hole look in the mirror YOU HAVE BECOME PART OF THE PROBLEM. Regardless of your 12 year old down votes no respectable lawyer would touch this.
Not when that person was WFH then forced to RTO. The only accident you have at the home office is maybe an occasional shart.
Trying to link a car wreck to RTO is the most ridiculous thing I have seen on this board. This was horrible to see but traffic fatalities are a regular occurrence in Atlanta.
If this happened in Atlanta there were no weather conditions that made the drive anymore unsafe than a typical drive in Atlanta traffic. My husband, son and I all went to work today in ATL traffic without incident. READ AGAIN THERE WAS NO WEATHER EVENT IN ATL TODAY. If this post is true it is clearly heartbreaking but it isn’t a wrongful death it is just an unfortunate accident. Go ahead and down vote IDC but this is not open and shut and AT&T is not at fault. What i don’t understand is why an email went out empowering decisions since there was no reason to stay off the roads today. Maybe just in case there is snow Friday. In any event, If this truly happened my thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. I am also praying I don’t hear tomorrow that this happed to someone i know.
Btw. This was not the lady who posted yesterday she was not in ATL
Generally, you cannot sue your employer for injuries sustained in a car accident while commuting to or from work. This is known as the "going and coming rule."
Here's why:
- * Commuting is usually considered a personal activity: Your employer doesn't typically have control over your commute.
“Beautiful weather in Atlanta today. No snow, ice, or rain.”
No one said it was weather related but when jobs have ALWAYS been remote and now have to be RTO for no reason other than sh---y management then this is a result of that. Should never have been in the road when it has always been able to be work from home. But go ahead and be an a--hole. Maybe it will be your turn next.
Beautiful weather in Atlanta today. No snow, ice, or rain.
This happens everyday. This is not because RTO.

Nothing stopping you from sending it yourself.

ATT is 100% responsible. If I was on the jury, I’d send them to the cleaners.
And you a holes made fun of her post from yesterday?
You all defended John S over your fellow co worker?
You’re all trash!
Definitely not Fake. I work with the team she was on all the time. We were told this afternoon. Very unfortunate she was a very nice woman.
Why were roads not safe there this morning? Is the snow and ice there already?
This is an open and shut wrongful death lawsuit against AT&T. If I was on the jury I would award $50 million+ in punitive damages. There is no excuse for sending your employees out onto Atlanta roads unnecessarily. I hope the company gets absolutely demolished in court for this. Make sure the family knows the score.
