Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

HR Help Medical billing advice

I was laid off and told subsidized coverage will continue for six months. It did.
Earlier I had a chat discussion in-app with support to discuss how to handle open enrollment since I did not want anything to change or mess up current coverage and subsidy through end of January. They told me to do nothing during open enrollment and the existing coverage and subsidy will continue. They told me to stop the auto debit payment before the price increase is withdrawn in February and that would automatically cancel medical but then how do ai continue to receive and pay for retiree vision and dental? I have the transcripts of what I was told and confirmed at least twice their exact
instructions. Was I instructed wrong and if so, how do I fix this? Will I get the same support team on phone as in app chat? Has anyone gone through this already?

When surplused you get 18 months of COBRA. The first 6 months are what they called extended coverage (or something like that). During this extended coverage you continue to pay the subsidized rate (as if you were still employed). Dental and Vision is not included with COBRA. For Dental and Vision you need to get that from the ATT retirement plan. Of course, with craft, management and so many different plans, what I mentioned may or may not apply to you. Since you mentioned an event in February, it sounds like you were surplused 7/2024. You should call the benefits line for help so your specific situation is addressed correctly.

OP, exactly what is your question?

When I was surplussed; after 6 months; I was able to transfer to COBRA. good for a year and guaranteed acceptance. But, a new policy, so I has to reapply for prescriptions. No medical info transfer due to HIPPA. The rate did double as no longer company paid portion, but better and easier than applying elsewhere. You have 30 days from employer insurance termination to apply.

“Can't you call the medical insurance people, and ask them to terminate the insurance at midnight, Jan 31st?”

You would think. Says can only cancel medical during open enrollment or a life event which was not what I was told during my live chat. Just told to not pay and they would cancel for non payment but to me that implies they cancel everything, vision and dental included.

Can't you call the medical insurance people, and ask them to terminate the insurance at midnight, Jan 31st? I would ask them to terminate the insurance and not debit me for February.

“ You need to ask your supervisor“

Dude, why don’t you stop with this schtick? It’s not funny or clever or witty.
