The f-k would you want a promotion when you have all the bi--h drama to deal with. Know what you're getting yourself into. Be as insulated from management as possible while making as much money as possible. That's the game. More FaceTime with management isn't what you want unless you want to get nothing technical done.
@OP. I'd not ask for anything these days. Sooner or later, some openings are going to be available in the company, after the big layoff. That's when you ask for a promotion, after the red wave and pink tide.
Just ask ypur supervisor what does it take to get a promotion.
They should be able to tell you and if you are there.
Ask for the promotion and base it off their response to you. Tell your boss you do ABC and give examples.

Yes there are promotions. But just being in a salary grade for a long time justifies you get promoted. Only in unions do you automatically get moved up salary grades by seniority. You my friend need to earn it.
