Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Will Trump challenge IBM moving jobs to India?

Will the Trump administration do anything to stop companies like IBM from moving US jobs to India?

IBM CEO continues to get rid of American workers and send their jobs to India. He has no regards for America workers. He is very bias as executive promotions are going to Indians. It doesn’t matter if the American workers are top performers, his orders are to get rid of them. I believe if the Trump administration knew they would take some actions.

Trump might curtail H1 Visas, but that is about it. Most of these mega companies are international in scope and have a footprint all over. Accounting is done in country A, engineering is done in country B, tech in Country C. How can you hold there feet to the fire? Layoffs are layoffs. We'll have to see how things go. Certainty is complicated. I think Trump will focus on large employers in manufacturing and key industries.

"Alvind sure as heck doesn't care about anything in the IBM company (US) except his supersized CEO bonus for 2024."

stocks and share price, i believe (not 100% sure) most of 'upper' management get
paid in lots of stocks, the more they can jack that up the better it is for them
doesn't matter what it does to the company long term
since people can sell and move their stocks immediately

Once IBM stopped making machines (IBM = International Business MACHINES), they signed on the line that is dotted and made themselves irrelevant.

what the heck is oracle

A company founded to focus and develop an IBM-invented (and mostly squandered) idea: the relational database.

A company whose founder could now buy IBM for cash.

The time to cry about IBM moving jobs to India was decades ago. In fact, the time to cry about IBM doing anything was decades ago.

It would be more realistic to ask Donald Trump to break IBM into US-owned pieces than to demand that he bring jobs back. That's what's happening with Stellantis right now, and the same thing can happen with IBM if there is anyone left who cares about the company.

"IBM has the word "International" in the name...that much is clear. They have always been an international company, so they can hire wherever they want. "

jesus this is long drivel
ibm is propped by shares which is propped up by the Fed and hence the 37 trillion in US debt
they produce nothing new, their management are skillless
ibm is nothing more than a tech plantation
those other countries are NOT creating new math or science
they are getting it from the US and or Europe

The closure of International Business Machines (China) Investment Corporation in 2025 Q1 is another big win for India.
Congratulations to Indians!

Let's wait and see.

I'll take the Devil's Advocate position here, and ask a question for everyone:

What jobs would you propose be "brought back" to the US?

When I read about the "tens of thousands" and "hundreds of thousands" of jobs IBM has in India, I say to myself "What kind of BS is this?" What is IBM really doing in India? Development? Engineering? Tech Support? Testing? Perhaps they are, but how many jobs are we really talking about?

IBM has the word "International" in the name...that much is clear. They have always been an international company, so they can hire wherever they want. What isn't so clear is what jobs actually exist anymore in the company, in any capacity, in any location. How many development, testing, whatever jobs could the company reasonably hope to establish in the US, given that it has shrunk so much in market presence?

The days of IBM company towns like Austin, RTP, Rochester, Poughkeepsie, whatever with thousands of employees driving in and out each day have passed. The world has changed, and the IT industries along with it. So I repeat the question...what jobs would be brought back to the US?

The most important asset of a company should be talents rather than Indians, yet IBM got it completely backwards.

Trump only cares about the mouth breathers whose jobs may be outsourced by Mexicans, not white collar jobs that have been outsourced to low cost countries. Just thankful that my overall financial picture is more dependent on the stock market which doesn’t care who is doing what versus a job at this point.

"I don’t like that companies outsource to cheap foreign countries at all, as do many people on this website, but if it benefits companies financially, Trump would favor it."

I think you are confusing company with share price.
That is probably why these so-called companies are rotting from within like Intel like Boeing. And if these so-called companies were successful the US would not have racked up 37 trillion in debt and our infrastructure would not be going down the toilet.

"The idea that any politician - either Republican or Democrat, and put into office by the rich - is going to do anything at all for the working class, is really hilarious."

"Republican or Democrat"
They are not 2 parties.
They are 2 actors in a play put forth for the american public.
2 very wealthy actors with very little usefulness
which have racked up and enormous amount of debt while gutting the US culture.

I seriously doubt it. Outsourcing to India creates cost savings for greedy companies. What capitalist viewpoint would want to reverse measures on cost savings for their company.

I don’t like that companies outsource to cheap foreign countries at all, as do many people on this website, but if it benefits companies financially, Trump would favor it.

Companies support Trump because they believe his policies help grow their company. If Trump did anything to impede on that, they will no longer support him.

I heard that lettuce is going to cost $10 a head if we don't have the cheap labor to pick it..

Hey, that's OK, I have around 2 acres, you know how much money I could make growing my own lettuce and selling it for that price????

I for one am ok with Drump (otherwise known as King Oompa Loompa) as I grow my own food and have a full solar / battery set.

Once he gets his tariffs in full swing, and throws out all the people that pick our veggies and butcher our meat, inflation is going to skyrocket. I don't care, I'm prepared.

Friend of mine from my 2nd account lost his and his co-workers jobs cause Trump told them when running his 1st term as president he was going to address the H1B visas. That didn't happen. Wouldn't surprise me he doesn't stop jobs being offshored
