Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Gaslighting displaced non-core site employees is shady AF!

While it really su-ks that we are being displaced as we are in a non-core site (Idaho), WF is stringing the process along by putting us in temporary positions (6months) until we get let go. The only problem is, I would like to just get my severance pay so I can move on with my life. On one hand, it’s nice they gave us such a big advance notice to not terminate us with no notice, but on the other hand, this gives employees 6-9 months to look for another job. The way I understand it is if I leave (find another job) before my layoff date, the company doesn’t pay me my severance.

I was grateful for the 9 month reassignment - easier work, less OT and got to ride into retirement. I don't think they realized they were benefitting me (nor cared), but sometimes things work out in life! Beats getting dropped suddenly.

"Whatever else it is, how is it gaslighting?"

It's not. It's just rage slang used when individuals confuse reality with reading into things.
No control.

2 choices OP,
Work the extension and hope for a layoff after OR quit, thus forfeiting consideration for future severance. Do the math. See which is better.
Unless your too gaslit.

Well WF is definitely using you guys to finish up work that they need to help fill their pockets. I would hang out for the severance but if you have an opportunity that pays close I would take it.

Because the original layoff date went from a short window (about 30 days) to 6+ months (about 180 days) found us an assignment . Several employees have been with the company 10, 15, 20 years, so the severance would be (and I don’t want to say this too loud, but is a decent amount). I don’t want to just forfeit that.

just look for a job and when the right one comes around, leave. If you hold off to wait for severance you may let opportunities pass that might not be there when you actually need a job.

What’s the temporary positions? Is it RCSA work? Audit work? Clean up work?

That's right, they are biding their time hoping a certain percentage will just move on. I'm sure there is a risk/business continuity factor in there, as well, but some will just choose to move on knowing it's coming.

Another way to look at this is, regardless of WF motives or intent, it is good for you, because the market is still not great. While it su-ks to be in limbo, it's probably better in the long run to have a bit of runway to let the job market rebound a bit.

Hold out for that severance OP. Don't let these vile ivory tower types off the hook.

“ if I leave (find another job) before my layoff date, the company doesn’t pay me my severance.”

Why would one expect severance before their employment is severed?
