Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stankeys newest plan to make you quit

Musical cities.

It goes like this. You get “the letter” that says you have two weeks to tell them if you’re willing to uproot your entire life, sell your home, tell the neighbors goodbye, pull the kids out of school, and find a new home in Dallas.

One year goes by and you get “the letter” again, only now your job is in Atlanta! Ah! What to do? Better do as the Stank says or you’ll be without a job so you do it again.

The next year your letter says your job is in New Jersey! Do it again.

And round and round you go around all of the 9 hubs until you get back to Dallas,

If you can make it this far, then you get to stay to turn the lights off, which will be any minute.

Congratulations you win! Best part is it’s all perfectly legal because there are zero protections from unethical corporate practices like these.

Isn’t it time for some basic laws to protect workers from things like this?

"Incorrect, Dallas is full and cannot possibly accommodate national employees from 8 hubs."

The above can be true and false at the same time. I agree with the premise on the face. BUT MAYBE Dallas (and surrounding areas) have enough capacity to target their final employee number and the current situation is part of getting Dallas employees to quit. If this RTO was planned and not some early morning sitting on the toilet brain fa-t idea of a mad king, they had ample opportunity to get space or not get rid of the space they are getting rid of. From network capacity, to seating, to parking. All of it could have been addressed first if they wanted to have a successful experience. Something other than free Starbucks in the Lobby in Dallas. I almost choked when I saw that on LinkedIn as an example of a successful RTO.

If the network is going to be significantly smaller in 4 years (end of Carrier of Last Resort, serving only economically profitable customers, and replacing wireline with wireless (read regulatory filings about COLR) as Stink said on the TH yesterday), why can't every national employee be in Dallas by then? There would still be regions, as there are today, with their own smaller staff.

The state companies were recently re-incorporated with different names and McElfresh's name was on them (opencorporates.com). Why couldn't the company get smaller geographically and by employees (Carrier of Last Resort again)?

While I hold a low opinion of legacy SWBT, PBT, and AT&T management that are now executives or SVPs, I think they could have had a good RTO if they wanted. I also think they have good enough lawyers and consultants to have advised them, like their other large corporate clients, on how to get to where they want to go with variable expense with the least cost in the long run.

They are #3 for a reason. This whole thing is probably going exactly to plan.

re: to the post below...

Good luck proving you were replaced by anyone much less a DEI hire. T has been hiring / back filing for years. They are pros at this sort of activity -- I wonder what emails , etc you save that would have anything strong enough to support your case.

“Your attorney can’t do a thing. You’ll sign the form for severance if your offered it. It says you won’t sue them."

Incorrect. Our wonderful severance form abides by state and federal statutes, one of which includes your right to sue based on civil rights violations. Hear me and hear me loud and clear everyone. Anybody that was laid off because they were selectively targeted to move out of state, (Age or Race) and consequently coerced out of your job and replaced with a DEI hire, you absolutely have solid standing for a civil rights lawsuit. Your attorney can make a case to sue not only AT&T but each person in the chain of command directly responsible for taking part in the big lie of RTO relocations. Business re-alignment, in person collaboration and building consolidation are collectively, and wholly indefensible arguments.

“All national jobs will eventually be in Dallas”

Incorrect, Dallas is full and cannot possibly accommodate national employees from 8 hubs.

No matter how many times you say it, doesn’t make it true. It’s complete and utter BS

"Your attorney can’t do a thing. You’ll sign the form for severance if your offered it. It says you won’t sue them."

That is incorrect. Some states allow you to keep your right to a civil suit regardless of signing a waiver for severance.

Your attorney can’t do a thing. You’ll sign the form for severance if your offered it. It says you won’t sue them. Or you could say no to the severance and sue them for asking you to move to Dallas. As far as carving them up they’d never put themselves in that position.

Sadly, T has a specific number of employees that they need to get down to. We all know one way or the other they will get to that number.

"Getting everyone to Dallas was never ever possible."

They don't care if you have a place to work. They will cram everyone in or lay them off after they get to dallas.

“Again, it is logistically impossible for them to fit everyone in Dallas and Atlanta. It’s a lie. It will never ever happen.”

Correct. Once Wave 3 and extended Wave 3 are completed they will take one last inventory of how many pre-targeted older white employees have managed to jump through all the hoops and are still here. They’ll get us one way or the other but I am ready for them. I have every single email, Teams message and Town Hall recorded. My attorney will carve them up with their own words and logistics and lies. They will beg me to settle in a single day.

THEY NEVER SAID EVERY EMPLOYEE IS GOING TO DALLAS! Many of us work for the customer locally everyone knows that. As room allows though I suspect they would like to move more to Dallas in the months to follow. Also keep in mind that most don’t move they retire.

“Hey Trump making all govt employees RTO. So there is that.”

I believe those people are office workers who were able to work from home during Covid, it’s time for them to return (read there is widespread abuse going on). In our case, we had many employees who were designated as full time telecommuters who had been working from home for decades (fact) that were forced to RTO. From what I heard, AT&T, like many other big companies, were threatened by the Biden administration to get their employees back into the office at least 3 days a week to help boost the struggling economy.

My guess is the 5 day RTO modification was our management’s idea.

(I realize that people who were never allowed to WFH will never have pity for telecommuters but if you’ve been hired or allowed to work full time from home for 10-20 years and then told to go back into the office, it’s a huge lifestyle adjustment. Mostly dealing with managing children.) Single parents are greatly affected.

“Also they are re-opening floors at ackard as we speak.”

What does that tell you? They don’t have capacity.

How much more can they add in Ackard? A few thousand? There’s tens of thousands of employees all over the other 7 hubs.

Again, it is logistically impossible for them to fit everyone in Dallas and Atlanta. It’s a lie. It will never ever happen.

It’s not even close to that many people. All market based people stay put. Just the national people. Also they are re-opening floors at ackard as we speak. Now it could be true they don’t have room but it was never the plan to move 100k people. Many of us are retail employees or outside inside repair crews with local leadership.

“Dallas cannot handle 125k or 130k people. Period. Ultimately it will all end up between Dallas and Atlanta.”

What do you not understand?

Dallas and Atlanta are full. You’re repeating a lie they are using to keep you in fear.

They aren’t moving 7 hubs to Dallas and Atlanta because they can’t, not because they don’t want to.

“Nah all roads are to Dallas.”
“Dallas is the ultimate goal. “

Where have you guys been? There is no room in Dallas. Why don’t think they stopped the waves?

It’s because they can’t physically fit anymore heads into those buildings.

We have 9 hubs because they can’t fit 130k, 100k, or even 80k in Dallas.

It logistically can’t be done. You fell for their propaganda. Getting everyone to Dallas was never ever possible.
