Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Realignment of Staffing Levels

A realignment of staffing levels will allow the company to achieve its targets while operating in a very challenging economic environment. This will take place through voluntary and involuntary separations in the weeks and months to come. We are positioning the company to face the unprecedented financial challenges ahead while delivering to our shareholders.

This company is a laughing stock of the industry. Downstream acting as if they can’t make payroll next week. What a failure of an organization. Stock should be a hard sell. I pray for the safety of the staff when such foolish decisions and cuts are being made so as to jeopardize safety and reliability to save the executives rear ends.

Reevaluate the effectiveness of the employee referral program. Managers hiring people that don’t meet the minimum qualifications of the job posting so their buddy can get paid. Qualified applicants don’t even get an interview. It’s working against the company.

Buying the failing Husky business was the straw for Cenovus.

It was a failing organization with failing management, a lot who are now at Cenovus, continuing to fail.

Cenovus is a bottom tier company that portrays themselves as "world-class" whilst pandering to shareholders and neglecting those who perform the actual work.

Cenovus badly needs someone who understands downstream and can make actual change to many of their facilities. Many of these facilities are weighed down with crippling mid management many of whom should themselves be in nursing homes along with their aging colleagues. I struggle to think of 1 good decision this company has made since they acquired Husky 4ish years ago.

They are currently allowing their main asset to rot from the inside out while they attempt to appease shareholders.. Maybe arranging the deck chairs isn't working and it's time for some real change.

Wow they took down that post about that refinery party with the scantily clad gals hired for entertainers. I saw it whilst drinking my coffee this morning and now it is gone. If that was true I suspect someone responsible for that would be disciplined. Shaking my head again at the downstream.

Recent hires may not but qualified, but managers are just sitting on their hands doing as little work as possible and setting up employees to fail. Poor management, poor employee performance. Hire some managers that support their people.

Go work, go broke. Cenovus is big time woke.

Most of the job openings have been rescinded or paused. Recent hires do not meet minimum qualifications of job description and are sitting bored on their phones with no clue what to do. I watch it daily. Managers take no accountability to train - I guess sink or swim isn’t working.

They are hiring juniors left and right, to cut G&A. No experienced and competent staff are safe at Cenovus.

They’re hiring people left and right. They aren’t cutting G&A.

They are cutting $100s of millions in G&A as announced by CEO (salaries and benefits}. Read their financial statement and listen to the CEO addresses.

This is the internal standardized message to managers as a response to team questions or impacted teams. Some manager basically copied this off the site and reposted it here. Pretty brave soul to risk corporate wrath. Hope they did it from their home computer.

This sounds like such an AI generated or such a corporate comment to damage control absolute poor decisions made by the top heavy Cenovus.
Since when has this company ever been proactive about anything. I’m glad I no longer work at that morale ki-ling he-l hole and don’t have to deal with the incompetent people they call management there. It’s a wonder that they are profitable and the “realignment” should be getting rid of the mid management that runs some of their conventional units then head to the office and get rid of the high price managers that don’t offer any value to the org.
“Voluntary” separations?? Please don’t sugar things. We all know that’s not a thing in the oilfield.

Although I would not be surprised if Cenovus leadership started letting people go, even before we know if the tariffs become real and have a signiciant lasting impact or not, but the thought of Cenovus attacking employees again so early in the game - speaks volumes. Such a poorly run company. No one is safe around here. There is a common denominator explaining why CNRL wins and CVE losses. It's not rocket science..
Is this annoucement true and official or just some troll using AI?
