Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Requirements for employment.

Stankey thinks he’s so smart getting us back in the office five days a week. I’m a perennial top performer. I’ve worked from home for the past five years and now I’m back in the office and I do nothing. I asked myself, what are the requirements of my job? Two things: compliance training, and being in the office. that’s it. There is nothing else that I need to do to keep my job and I’m tired of watching slackers around me get by so instead of fighting them I will join them. Until the day that I can work from home again and do my job without distractions and without BS micromanagement and wasting 10-12 hours a week commuting to work remotely in the office, I will do nothing more than the basic requirements. Meet me at the ping-pong tables, the lunchroom, outside on the plaza, riding elevators. It’s gonna be a good year.

I'm so glad I left in September. I haven't missed it one time and everyone tells me I left just in time. Coffee and Fox News start each days adventure. I put in my time for over 35 years. Back and forth commute like cows to the barn. If I had it to do over I wouldn't have taken it so seriously and put work before family so many times. AT&T has to be one of the worst ran companies around. BellSouth was great but those days are a distant memory. My advice .. try to focus on family first and put in the effort necessary to meet your personal standards. They deserve nothing more than that. I think about you all often and am sorry you're having to work in such a depressive environment. God Bless you all.

OP, grow up based on your comments most of it so lie, you probably spend most of your day in the toilet on your cell phone typing to your buddies on Snapchat. You know what your job is in the requirements and if you don't do them you'll find out pretty quick when your reminded.

Maybe the offices are sized for the number of people they actually want to be there and the cuts in Dallas (and all the other over crowded hubs) will happen sooner than later.

In an awesomely perfect world, the best performers would quit and quickly find a new, better paying job. Then the company will sink under the weight of it's overpaid underperforming leadership with the right amount of variable expense, aka employees.

Today, I sat down next to a focker who did TEAMs all day with his loud voice. I could not hear my thoughts, I could not hear my manager ( I had several meetings too), I could not concentrate, and this kept on and on all day. So, I did nothing. I walked around, went to kitchen to watch on my phone because sitting next to a loud talker doing teams all day is unproductive. Didnt get anything done. Maybe I will get lucky tomorrow.

I was a top performer as well and took advantage of additional training through T. When my zip code came up, I took my check and had another job the week after I left. People with skills will always be able to find another job.

OP here, and yes, I am a person of integrity and if I’m honest it will be very hard to slack off. It’s not in me. But the way this has been handled has given me the motivation to su-k it up and meet the requirements only, then focus very much on my ping pong game, curate my Spotify playlist, and my new favorite thing: see how many times I can ride the elevator before seeing the same person twice. So far my record is 28 rides top to bottom! It’s harder than you think!

Until recently I have not been in office full time since 2008. The RTO stupidity has nothing to do with the C virus or they would have only brought back those that were full time office pre C virus.
Instead the absolute Einstein bring everyone back.
This causing those of us that were more productive at home (such as OP) to absolutely dispose the stupidity while playing the stupid game. Productivity taking nose dives all over the company but we sure have these worthless 3 seat tables filled to the max.

RTO doesn’t do anything but cost the company money maintaining the offices and equipment. Not to mention the loss in productivity. Most work is global at this point, so there isn’t a need to be in an office like it was 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago to just sit on teams calls. If you were a smaller local company where everyone is there, it makes sense, but for most it doesn’t and is just a waste of time. Save the expense and send people back home. But we all know this is about getting people to leave on their own, retire or have cause to terminate I.e a headcount reduction exercise.

There is actually zero “collaboration” that goes on in the office day to day. The only conversations that happen are non work related or share the consensus that RTO is stupid and painful.

Everyone is commuting to an office just to sit on teams calls. Nothing happens in person. The company is just too big for this to be a realistic expectation. Bunch of id--ts.

Playing daily musical chairs and trying to focus while others are loudly hosting meetings or socializing around you doesn’t make for a good working environment. So they can F off and take what they get. This is what they wanted. They value butts in seats over production.

Anyone who says WFH is not productive is the problem. They are the low performers who think their job is validated by swiping their badge.

Nobody is fooled and nobody likes RTO.

I filed my taxes in the office today. Gonna spend some time just cleaning up my inbox this afternoon and tomorrow I will let training course play on mute while streaming something on my personal device. No working to exceed expectations anymore from me.

Quit whining folks. This is the trend in corporate America. The WFH was because of the C. Virus. That has been over for a while. It is just a cold now where you can be in the office. RTO Now “Go take on the Day”.

Having to go into the office occasionally has become nothing more than a distraction- lunch hour, people coming by talking, all of the events downtown. I had none of that at home and have been productive since 2009.
I don’t mind the drive into the office but based on my own.experience and the amount of people walking around, there is a lot of nothing getting done.

Thanks Stankey for your input. Of course you would think this, because you see all employees as exactly the same. One programmer is the same as another. One supervisor is the same as the other. Just move them where ever, or get rid of them wi--y-nilly, doesn't matter.

Of course, that's why the employees believe you are an id--t. Each of us is different, with different abilities, likes, dislikes, and skills.

Some employees love the energy and hustle and bustle of the office, and are super productive in that environment. To others, it is distracting and terrible and impossible to get things done. Some are lonely and easily distracted at home. Others are super focused and highly productive at home. But of course, a narcissistic micromanager can't see that. You only know, and only want, the management style of the 80's because that's what you think is best.

For sure! Steady getting work done is no longer the primary goal. Nope, where we are is more important than what we do.

Request granted. I'm here, ready to collaborate, conversate cross-functionally, contribute to spontaneous corridor discussions, and build company culture. Until I can do those, filling the time as I see fit is the only rational outcome
