PTO Payout Check

I haven’t been laid off yet but I’ve been given informal notice of a date. My severance will start on June 10. Is the PTO payout combined with my first severance payout installment or a payment cut separately?

I don’t have it displacement package yet so I can’t look there. Thanks!

To those criticizing about advance notice. I received advance notice because I was a remote worker. I was first given notice that my role moved to a hub city. I had 30 days to respond. When I declined the relocation, I knew my days were numbered. Though my manager wasn't to give me any indication of my final day, my manager did. Therefore, I knew about three months ahead that I would be let go because I wouldn't move.

Regarding the PTO pay out. It will be paid out on your last day of your 60-day notice. My recommendation is to not use PTO so that you can cash out. I know it's tough right now. It will get better, and you'll be happier once you're gone from WF. The job market is tough right now, so start preparing yourself now as best you can. You'll be ok. Good luck.

There may not be a formal “advance notice” but in CSBB people get their relocation offer first. They have 30 days to accept or deny it and if they decline it, then it’s usually a couple of months before they get the actual layoff notice. Again, for CSBB, most people have to work the 60 day notice.
For example, wave 2 got relo offer in June, layoff notice in September, last day in November.

OP- if all of the above applies to you… on your last day of work you’ll get an off cycle paycheck that includes your PTO balance. Mine didn’t appear in workday or my account until about mid day on my last day of work.

Then you skip the next scheduled pay period (since you were paid on your last day) and then your severance payments kick in.

for the record, i got a separate pto payment from my severance payments which all started after 60 days working notice. i did not take pto since i was given no work during the whole period prior to severance and was kind of on pto

two things

  1. while still on payroll i signed up for paper payslips which turned out to be very helpful
  2. depending on your state you can sign up for unemployment while on severance

the reason they give most people a 60 day nom work is to get around WARN notifications and giving you a heads up. They lay lay you off Tuesday and file the warn notice that day which in most states requires a 60 day notice, hence the 60 day non work. you're still employed for the next 60 days.

Take your PTO before you go

Check if your state has a WARN site. If you are truly part of a schedule reduction it should already be reported to the state.

That’s a big no, no if you got a pre-notice. I wouldn’t be saying that too loudly. PTO is after the 60 day notice.
