Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

severance benefits?

I know that if you don't take a lump sum you'll continue to get medical. vision, and life insurance benefits until your severance runs out. Can you also still contribute to WF 401k during that time?

You can make direct contributions to Empower itself. Just not through your paycheck/WF.

I plan on maxing out my contribution starting next pay cycle so as to max out my yearly max contribution over the next couple months.

Friendly reminder that if you aren’t employed in December you won’t get the match.

It’s true you can’t contribute, but one thought is to increase your 401k giving if possible so that at least once the notice period starts you’re still socking away more for a few more months before it stops. It’s even more if over 50 or between 60-63 where you can save more starting this year.

Quick answer - no. Went through that last year and while benefits continued, you cannot contribute anymore.

I went on notice in October. Re: 401k, no you are no longer an employee after the notice period ends. HSA deductions can continue, but an HSA is yours and has nothing to do with WF. BTW, I LOVE early retirement!
