Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm done with deadlines

You can't saddle me with the work of several people and then add unrealistic deadlines on top of that. I swear, some of these managers see us as robots. That's the only way I can explain their expectations. From now on, it's done when I have time to get to it. If you don't like it, then get me some help or fire me. I'm done breaking my back for a place that doesn't appreciate me.

I declined the unreasonable deadline and additional workload, which led to me being laid off.

I heard about a young guy back in 2021 who worked 60 + hours died suddenly. Cant help but think he was a casualty of this nonsense.

My deadlines are determined months in advance for reviews that I do. They are reasonable but I refuse to take on any extra work because of poor planning by management. I certainly will never work a weekend to help this company.

I really love the fake deadline BS that comes from above my manager. Deadline is in 3 weeks, but we are going to require status updates every day starting the morning after we told you about this and you better have it done by the end of the week.

This company is great about setting fake deadlines then the director or exec level pestering for daily progress and the work being done well in advance of the deadline.

Then when your two week Agile sprint goes to sh-t because of this, you get hounded on the sprint failing.

These exec clowns keep talking about agile but they are the ones who keep sc--wing it up then get pissy looking at the Jira dashboards.

I used to get 6 month deadlines, now they are 30 days, ridiculous.

Agreed!
Displacements leaving the remaining work team with the burden to pick up the slack is the quick and fast way for traded companies to raise stock prices. It is a dirty practice with no end in sight so do what you can to protect your health and sanity. I laugh to myself when a manager says something like, "Most of the team does 10-hour days." Those folks continue to drink the Kook Aid!

If you cant do your job in 40 hours a week, you need to speak up. Set boundaries.

@op "Some of these managers see us as robots". You are and it is just beginning. You and @a5 guys are starting to develop your boundaries.
Another boundary setting is to develop yourself. I recommend the businessModelYou site.
Fear is a nasty thing and it appears to pervade this bank. If you are a manager or want to know what real managers are I recommend you read the book "The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth" by Amy C. Edmondson. This is a pivotal book that explores the concept of psychological safety in organizational settings.

Totally agree with you, my friend! After an IM rating for a consistently good performer here, there is nothing to lose and I'll work at a strong and reasonable pace but not stay up late and really do much work at home or on the weekend any more. Do what you need to do but I'm putting my health and family 1st.
