Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T employees deserve better

Many of us were hired under a hybrid model, only to now be forced into the office 8-9 hours a day, adding commutes, gas costs, parking fees, and wardrobe expenses—all while our paychecks remain the same. On top of that, teams are being slashed, yet we’re expected to take on extra workloads without promotions or salary increases.

If AT&T wanted to fundamentally change the terms of employment, shouldn’t employees have been given a choice—either accept the new model or take a severance package? Instead, we’re being pushed into an unfair situation under the guise of being “lucky to have a job.”

At what point does loyalty go both ways? If you’re still here, I hope you’re exploring options—because it’s clear AT&T isn’t looking out for us.

Asd a matter of fact they do, and topping off at a year's salary for their management employees, it's double what T's is.

I love when people attempt to somehow look down their noses at other major employers, as if T is some kind of crown jewel. Like the guy that always posts about WalMart too.

News flash. T's management benefits, including severance, are below average for a corporation this size. Wake up dimwits.

What studies are you referring to?

He's referring to outdated studies from 2023. Newer sources, like B2B Reviews state the following:
29% of hybrid companies plan to stay that way permanently. 90% of companies plan to implement return-to-office (RTO) policies by the end of 2024. 60% of HR leaders say that drawing in talent is harder now than it was before the pandemic. (Oct 24)

Understand, T doesn't give a rat's a$$ about its employees. Is any of this fair? No. Was it done with empathy and transparency? No.

This is the culture of T.

They want you to leave. Being fair does not encourage people to leave. So no, they won't be fair.

Yes, McDonald's does. From "Exhibit 10(o) McDonald’s Corporation Severance Plan":

Severance Continuation Pay: Each Qualifying Employee shall receive Severance Continuation Pay equal to 2 (two) weeks of Base Pay for each Year of Service; provided that the minimum amount of Severance Continuation Pay shall be 26 (twenty-six) weeks of Base Pay and the maximum shall be 52 (fifty-two) weeks of Base Pay.

70% of companies are not adopting 5 day RTO, this comes with many negatives such as employee burnout, general unhappiness, and much much lower productivity due to the fewer number of working hours. RTO is a layoff and nothing else.

Some on this site keep saying 70% of companies are still using the hybrid model. But most are moving to 100% RTO. It takes time as we all know. RTO will be the new industry standard. Just like layoffs, they are here to stay. You have to size your employee base on what programs you are funding and which ones you are stopping due to business needs. You need to be agile and change. The rest of us do too.

Cry me a river! Many more were hired with the promise of a pension and full benefits upon retirement. Both have been drastically cut! Once you figure the company doesn’t have your best interest in mind the better off you will be.
