Existentially we are all just wasting our lives working. Working to live; living to work...

“This is the best post I have seen recently. I left last Oct and every aspect of my life has improved. It’s a waste of your life.”

Have things really improved though? Look where you still are.

I just hang out at work (when I go) and do as little as possible without getting fired and laugh about getting laid off, receiving my entitlements of termination pay, unemployment, then my 401k, pension and social security.

I’m miserable here. There is no
meaningful work available. My tasks are bored and repetitive. I’m here only for the paycheck. Hate it. No opportunity to develop any new skills. Everyone is a stranger in the office. People are afraid to talk. Can’t wait for that moment when they let me go, since i have no strength to do it on my own and want to be paid for exiting this miserable place.

It is only a dead end job if you have a dead end mentality. This is easy money.

Heard it said once that the cream rises to the top. Then I looked at the cream at the top here and they mostly look like #2. No, the best and brightest here are usually shoved into a SME role and are invaluable. They keep this place going time and again. The people at the top couldn’t tie their shoes without these people. Those are also the people that are finding other jobs and/or retiring at high rates right now. They may be replaceable at some point in time, but how costly is that going to be and it is going to take a looong time to replace them and their knowledge. I wish the cream at the top realized the mess they are creating.

This is the easiest paycheck I’ve ever earned, doesn’t get any easier! This truly is money for nothing! I’ll stick around until I’m canned or retire, whichever comes first!

Good advice above ....T is a paycheck...they can and will fire you at will.....find your purpose elsewhere...take care of those close to you...

Wasting my life? This is the easiest job I’ve ever had once they showed me they don’t care about me. Every shred of misguided loyalty, dedication and stress I ever burdened myself with has evaporated into the ether. Now I wake up, drive into the fantasy workplace and play make believe. I code what they ask me to code and I talk a bit, click a bit, and smile a bit. I don’t give 3 cents about someone’s misperception about priorities and the false importance of the nothings that we produce. With a vision such as my own, I am invincible and as happy as I’ve ever been. When they lay me off, fine. You worry about it, not me.

It’s a paycheck. Treat it as such and you’ll be happier. As they say, find your purpose. Kind of funny that that meant at the company, but find your purpose in something other than your job otherwise you will be disappointed. We don’t all get to be the CEO or VP. This is their whole life and that is sad really, I don’t want it to be mine. Spend time with your family, volunteer, get a good hobby, help others, build your own something outside of here. This is a means to an end. I am so much more than what I do here. I matter to others and not just in what I do for my job.
