Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The job market is brutal

Lost my job here a month ago. Got maybe 2 interviews out of 100 apps and havent landed a offer. Anyone else going through the same boat?

Since I got laid off by BNY last summer: 700+ applications, 50 first round interviews, made it to the final round for about 7, got my first offer last week. Way harder than my job search in 2021.

It su-ks but you’re not alone in it. Hang in there!

You are not alone, very competitve job market depending on level/salary. I have been applying internally for the past year & had 2 interviews. Applying externally for less than six months with 50+ applications and had one interview. In my experience it has taken 6 months to 2 years to find a new job.

I've been proactively looking for jobs in preparation for the inevitable layoff. Have had a few interviews, with a possible offer coming but the pay isn't any better than BNY.

Agree, and sorry to hear about everybody’s situation

Even worse is the firm sc--wing people out of their severance- seems like something the media should be picking up on, but of course they’re not

Going to get worse too. I believe that this was going to happen regardless of who won the election as the signs were lining up last year.

It sure is! It took me 6 months to land a full tine gig after getting the axe.

Same situation for a friend of mine that was also over 50 at the time his position was eliminated from BNY (he was a network administrator). Hate to tell you but it took him 2 years to find another job at a significantly lower salary but at least he likes working there (he hated BNY).

This all happened a few years ago. I believe the job market is worse now. Hopefully you're not in IT, although other areas may not be any better.

Absolutely, so much ghosting for remote roles too. Salaries for local companies are quite low compared to BNY unfortunately, 20-25k less.

Yes. 6 months, 4 interviews and nothing. Oh yeah, I am over 50 too and was making a very decent salary. I know I will get something good eventually.
