Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoff Entitlements

As a Leg T union worker, if I get laid off, I get 2 years pay along with benefits. I'm wondering if I'll get my 5 weeks vacation in the 2nd year of the payout. Hah it sure would su(K to be a manager.

Yep -- Doing my 8 and skate. Since they took 3 days of vacation away from me I am fully utilizing my vacation now plus the 3 weeks of caregiver time off. Between vacation, caregiver, and the sick days I plan to use, I will be out of work about 3 months this year. My productivity has dropped off the table since RTO. Be careful what you ask for.

Most of us are just hanging out at work doing the very minimum to avoid getting fired. It pays well and there's so many reasons we can skip out of work while still getting paid, it's almost funny, so we ain't leaving till they pay us to leave.

Another reader here, just sharing that my manager got a 2 week off the payroll notice last month and told me he's only getting 6 months pay. He was with the company over 30 some years. He said he wished he could get the 2 years pay like union workers.

As explained in the previous post, this shows how it is likely that senior union workers can and do get the termination package without an office closing. And this is a win/win deal.

March 14th is the next surplus announcement date for Leg T/CWA and many of us workers hope to get surplussed which means we get the termination package. It works out well because the company has to offer VTP for the number of positions being surplussed and it goes by seniority. This allows the highest senior workers to leave voluntarily so nobody from the bottom is Involuntarily laid off - as long as enough workers volunteer to take the VTP which isn't a problem of course because seemingly everyone wants it.

Better hope you get laid off before you get dumped from the leg-t contract into a mobility contract. Sure AF ain't gonna be no 2 years pay then. Be lucky if you get 6 months.

The OP doesn't really want to be laid off but she lead the scared little managers on this site to admit that my continued existence on the company payroll (which is what it's really all about) is more likely and secure than their su(ka$$ $chitt job. Haha

I call it “gold standard job security” otherwise known as involuntary severance payments. An obstacle just high enough for the company that the math doesn’t work. Hence you’ll never be laid off forever.

The OP is laughing her a$$ off at the silly little managers. I simply was saying "IF" I get laid off, not saying I AM getting 2 years pay. I likely won't get laid off. I'm just saying IF I get laid off, I get 2 years pay. That's close to $190k for me. Managers are more likely to get laid off AND most likely those laid-off managers will get around one-third what I get.

And that is why you will never be laid off. They will just keep making you more miserable until you leave. It was the union that taught AT&T the art of constructive dismissal.

You ain’t get any 2 years pay. These sl1me will find some way not to fork it over. After all, they have Skunkey’s million(s) dollars bonus to shell out.

OP, don't forget the $$$ you have donated to the CWA in the form of dues. 30 years= over $30,000 cash. Has the CWA earned their money? NO

Word on the street is they are changing management severance to 4 weeks for Level 1. That su-ks. Only good thing is no surplus until that gets changed. Hopefully will take a while.

Yes a lot of craft people do have 30 years. Trouble is involuntary layoffs start at the bottom where the payout is not 2 years pay. It’s a graduated scale. This unique scenario is not paid often these days if ever.

Don’t you have to work 30 years to get the 2 years pay? This means you won’t get it unless they lay off your whole team. They typically offer voluntary severance only and never offer that due to the high cost.

@a3+1jmd6pfab

We still only get 6 mos if laid off. Only extreme amounts of savings can equalize that.

Takes you two years to make what I earn in 1.

You keep praying for the layoff and I’ll keep banking my extra pay and let’s see who does better…
