Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The Wells Fargo Way

Tech is now being told to manually copy data from one system of record to another system of record, but to ensure they format it in a way that is machine-readable. Even better is that the system the data is being pasted in to is supposed to be a system that is primed to automate many functions.

Where's the efficiency? Why are we creating more error-prone manual processes rather than automating busywork?

This management team has no clue.

@j2+1jmg13tf1, yes, the Indian SM/KL are very incompetent. You lazy Indians don't show up in the meetings anyway, so stop complaining. 🤮

India is a racist third-world country. They have the Caste system, and women are treated like a 2nd class citizen. Do you want to integrate that kind of culture to our work place?

@ed+1jmg13tf1, you must be one of the incompetent Indian engineers who codes hundreds of bugs. You don't even come to the meetings. You Indians are all lazy and incompetent.

Oh my... Indian engineers blaming others for their incompetence. Typical... Hire more Americans who can do the job better.

The master's degree on Indian engineers' resume is mostly fake. They don't have real credentials and their resume is highly fudged and exaggerated. When they get hired, they have no idea what they are doing. The problem is Indian managers hire only Indians. As you already know, Charlie keeps hiring Indians because Indians are dirt cheap. Wells Fargo is all about cost saving, never cares about quality.

Tell me why Indian engineers cannot develop any software that actually work? Every software they touch is a full of bugs and glitches, and it doesn't do what it is supposed to do. We spend hundreds of hours to fix, re-test, redo, or even cancel. Back in the old days, most of the engineers were Americans, and their software actually worked!

Must be a number of SM/KL on here to downvote my post.

Sorry, but your positions are being eliminated and tasks being reassigned to the responsibilities of engineering managers.

Product Owner roles are being scrutinized as well, though there has not yet been a decision to eliminate them.

Incompetent Indian engineering managers. They are always confused and cannot complete anything. I don't even understand what they are saying.

Um... This is how they do things. They can't modernize parts of the bank because they always pushed it off as "not a priority". Now they want to connect cobal to cloud. Good luck!

Indian engineers are not just incompetent, but they are lazy. They are destroying WF technology.

I think the root cause is hiring incompetent Indian engineers and Indian engineering managers. I am sick and tired of those Indian engineers producing non-working software with so many glitches. Hire American engineers who can do the actual work!

@fm+1jmg13tf1, the problem is not scrum master/kanban lead or engineering manager. The problem is Indian SM/KL and Indian engineering manager.

BE wants Scrum Master/Kanban Lead functions to be taken over by engineering managers. Other banks have already done this and eliminated the SM/KL positions. But like everything else, we are a few years behind.

@ed+1jmg13tf1, Wells Fargo does not practice real agile, they are just doing a hybrid approach between waterfall and agile. You can't just blame scrum masters or product owners, it's the leadership who are still forcing agile teams to do the waterfall approach. In that kind of environment, scrum masters and product owners cannot do what they are supposed to be doing, the agile teams are just name only. Some people pointed out this issue to the leadership, but they got let go a few months later.

It's all these Senior level Mangers that have no clue about Technology. They committed to the Cloud but have no plan how to move the data

Now these "leaders" are asking everyone in FHO to use a spreadsheet to track their time every 15 minutes. I guess Jira reporting isn't working. Micro management or you don't trust your direct reports? Just when u think you've seen everything

Well at least I see you have SNOW now. And for the spreadsheets... I still have nightmares trying to run SSIS packages that needed to read .xls spreadsheets. The package would run and convert on the workstation but if run from the server it would fail. My manager insisted that all SSIS packages run server mode. I kept explaining this situation and recommended purchasing some tools etc. No, he just wanted me to get it to work. He was a developer that they made manager (because he wasn't very good at developing). I had to clean up all the messes he did years before. Then they made him a principal .... This place is doomed.

It's because they hire like 1 project manager or scrum master or BEC or whatever the heck --- for 1 engineer. You would think that a highly skilled engineering manager could handle all these tasks and interface with other EM's effectively without hiring somebody for 200k+ to set up meetings on Teams.

WF technology operates in the best technology standard of the year 2003. That's why they love outdated code and call all new technology the devil.

Technology cannot operate without the excessive use of word documents and Excel spreadsheets that's why so many administrative assistants AKA product owners get paid lots of money to not do any work but pretend to be actual bosses.

It's not supposed to work and it's not supposed to make sense so if you go and try to unravel how the machine works you won't be able to put it back together the people that they laid off 10 plus years ago where the original implementers and they never documented anything so rest assured that you're One outage away from a situation because one Excel spreadsheet doesn't make it to some storage location

I personally know that there are many other better ways to do it. But Wells Fargo managers intentionally want to do it this way otherwise they have no other works to do. You know, it's like city contractors constantly doing unnecessary road constructions so they can keep their jobs.

Nothing surprises me any more. Our system of record has been migrated twice in a year, and both times they added new primary keys for each record.
Now when we go back to old assessments we have 3 IDs they can possibly use instead of just one. #WFSS
