Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

BFS techs has no worries.

Wire techs and Digital Techs are going to be combined since it is pretty much same job now. The T1s are few and far between so that skill is not in high demand anymore. I was a DT, so I know. The DTs can learn GPON tips from WTs. And WTs learn ASE from DT. What this will do is ensure no DT layoffs. I know a lot of DTs did not like the bumping rules in new contract. But do you really think AT&T would allow rules for STs and OPTs to bump their best techs(DTs) unless they had a plan to work around it? Think about it. So you will have FTs, OPTs in construction and DWT( Digital Wire Techs) and FTs in maintenance. Watch ! Re-org is coming.

Will never happen, my area in BFS does ABFS, ABF, 911. GPON is only 10% of our work, they could give all GPON to Wire/Prem techs and I wouldn’t miss it @ all.

They have already combined DEG DT’s and CO ET’s under the same supervisor but due to job descriptions and different job skills they can’t do each other’s work. Division of labor is a good thing for the labor force.

They will combine digital techs, service techs and facility techs by the end of the year. This was the plan when they combined all into same family of skills. They will report to a common supervisor. This will eliminate another tier of the management structure.

Different job descriptions, scope of work, wage scale and contracts is an issue. The company is trying to combine all the titles as much as possible to keep the managers employed. Head count has been reduced dramatically over the last ten years.

Sorry as much as the company wants, super tech isn’t happening anytime soon due to division of labor. It needs to stay that way for labor.

Please allow some of the most senior BFS technicians to leave with a sizable paycheck in hand! There isn't enough work to support the techs that are in various regions of the country. So, why not let them leave and ride off into the sunset!
