Has anyone else had to fill out a Technology timesheet. We are now required to fill out an excel spreadsheet detailing every minute of every day. This will be rolled all the way up to Director level. Thoughts?

This is not new at all. Anyone who works on incremental (project) work has always had to fill out your hours each work week. It tracks to the overall project budget. It's not meant to track you and fire you...it's meant to keep balanced budgets.
And yet it's supposedly more efficient to spend 30+ minutes logging in each and every JIRA ticket in the third-person format rather than the 5 minutes it takes me 2x per month to fill out and submit for STAMP?! Not seeing the ROI here.
@at+1jmmhatbg If they're looking at simple "closed X tickets" sort of thing they should be able to generate reports for that. Some/many things simply can't get counted that easily-- design decisions, figuring out solutions, etc. "I spend 4 hours trying to get Y to work"
Must just be in your group. Not heard of this process (WIMT)
No and if I was asked it would just be bullsh-t bc nobody is going to look at it or do anything with it. It’s like all sorts of other nonsense busywork we get asked to do.
Somebody mentioned CTO. lol. Spreadsheets are the meat of their worries give the mess that is cloud and data center exit.
It’s hard to believe that we are talking about AI and also tracking hours on a spreadsheet. Let that sink in.
Does anything work at this place besides our CEO getting a raise?! He had picked Gidget-WTF!!!
This is coming from 2 levels below Gidget. The same bumbling mo--ns who can't figure out how to move legacy systems to the new Cloud infrastructure. I listed my morning dump under Admin. Guess it could be planning? Sounds like SR mgmt makes these decision in the cr-pper !
Stamp has nothing to do with this. That was never used like this is being used.
And this is much higher than any single exec. The reasoning is simple, there is no effect way currently to quantify what those in CTO do. All of the ways that should do this do not work. This ask is exactly what contractors do when on jobs. I don’t agree with it all, especially the retroactive timing but whatever.
Garbage in garbage out.
Let’s dump STAMP. Surely there won’t be any ratifications.
nothing says efficiency like writing down every single thing you do all day long. I'd write it on paper by hand, and then insert the photo into a spreadsheet just to make of a mockery of it. What a joke.
Time study. Typical looking at efficiencies.
Tell me you work for one of the last remaining Boomer managers without telling me you work for a Boomer. Wow!
If this was me, I would just take my time with ANY task and document it in excruciating detail every step. Make it painful to the manager asking for this BS .
There are many people in IT that are not on Agile/JIRA. It makes sense to track their work to prevent people mowing their lawns, doing laundry, cooking, running errands during office hours
No. It’s supposed to be automated from Jira to eliminate manual entries.
It sounds like your director is defeating the purpose of the newly implemented system to micromanage. I can’t say that is a real surprise. It’s why Agile is failing here too.
Some LOBs have done this in the past. 5, 10, 15 years ago. Now, what they did with the info, I couldn't tell you. However, it's obviously a ploy to look into efficiencies.
