How to deal with credit hogging coworkers?

My question would be: how do I deal with the credit seeking coworkers? They seem to gain a lot of political equity to get the promotions and managerial roles… #credithogging

There are a couple of Indian guys here. Those Indians bring a toxic culture to the United States. They should stay there.

JPM gets a good bit of blame here. I was there a long time and I can tell you every team and location has a different culture. Some are toxic others are not. It's such a large company with many acquisitions there really is not a homogeneous culture. The region is more important in my experience the large cities have the most corrupt culture.

Credit hogging coworkers are nothing compared to my narcissist evil manager. He dumps all the work on staff employees but he takes all the credit. During the executive call, one executive asked him to do a small project, and he says "I will do it". Then he dumps that project on me. After I completed the project, we went to the next executive call. He says to them "I did this" instead of saying "my team member did this". What kind of BS is this? I kid you not, this is a true story.

Put your accomplishments status and plans in a single slide and discuss during your one on ones. Send it beforehand.

If you don’t have a one on one schedule one at least once a month

If you did the work, make sure they know you did. No one will toot your ho-n for you. Hard to say without knowing the situation but sometimes you just have to keep the info to yourself and share it directly with leadership. I’ve definitely had moments when I’ve made it clear on important calls that the idea was mine in a subtle way “when I first raised this to blank…”

My manager shares all the info on my one on one with the coworker who steals credit. So i let them figure it out in their toxic symbiosis lol

I get the point of the post and it is looking at the extreme side of those stealing credit for work they did not accomplish. But isn’t it a personal responsibility to advocate for yourself as well and push your own agenda? A good leader should be able to recognize and help of course, but if we don’t advocate for ourselves why would they expend any energy on it.

this is the reality: if the leadership rewards and recognizes this behavior positively, the issue will never go away. Ex-Chase mid level leaders all seem to be steeped in this culture and it becomes a race to a-s kiss the hardest, vs do the best work / have the best ideas. you need to decide whether to play along and push your own achievements relentlessly, or find another org that fits your values better. eventually it will hurt you to stay here if you dont pick one of those paths

Don’t worry. It always catches up with them. You might not be around to see it happen, but it does. Meanwhile learn to speak up for yourself at appropriate times. Sometimes the ones who speak the least say the most. Be one of those people.

10 years ago I would have cared. Now? I just want the hacks running this place to accept our ideas for positive changes. Couldn't care less about credit. Don't need fancy ratings, and don't want another promotion. In spite of the fact that they CLAIM to want to change this place, they are in fact the top obstacle to change here.

in an office setting, it’s fairly easy to tell who acts out of genuine responsibility and who is just looking for recognition. as I always say, virtue and true character is really shown by what you do when no one is watching…
