Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

SPS Layoffs

Does anyone know how many people across SPS were let go between September (round 1) and October (round 2)? Seems COO GK slaughtered our division. Round 3 on the way to save on more 401K payouts?

You are correct - a RIF meeting will include your HR generalist. My manager was sneaky in that she used our weekly 1-on-1 for this (and I don’t think the HR generalist was even on the invite, at least not that I could see, and when I joined the meeting virtually, they were both on camera unexpectedly…), so yea, I was completely blindsided LOL (this was for the 1st round of Sept. RIFs, so prior to all the legit rumors/talk)

So potentially after a week off unpaid next week, I will walk into work 11/14 and get RIF’d. I’ll be looking for an odd meeting invite, with an HR representative I assume, based on the others who got dumped before.

The next two weeks should be great for my anxiety. Thanks Honeywell.

@ark
Working for Honeyhell, you should always be open to going somewhere else. Unless you get an immediate promotion and it looks like you may get another one soon, keep your powder dry.

Ok so it’s looking like 11/14 week for the big talent dump based on the calendar and unpaid time off. Wow. Happy holidays HoneyH€ll style to all!

@akhl - likely in the next week or two.

History shows they do the RIFs before major holidays.

I started looking after the second round of RIFs. Furlough weeks make excellent interview weeks.

So when is the axe falling?

They have a number in mind and they're going to hit it. If there aren't enough hand raisers, they will go after the older expensive employees, but will balance those with younger employees to avoid age discrimination lawsuits. For that purpose they provide a listing to everyone caught in a RIF of the location, job title, and age of everyone who was cut.

No one is safe, so it would be in your best interest to look for something else. It doesn't mean you have to accept another job, but the process can take a while and if you're cut you can recover faster if you have something in the pipeline.

I have asked around my site, but not a single hand-raiser. So what comes next? New engineer here, jr, trying to figure out if I should start looking or not.

Consensus at my SPS site is not many hand raisers (obviously). So what’s next? New to Honey he-l. Name fits tho.

Like @8zea said, managers can and will block volunteers. Most times they claim critical need but a lot of the time it's actually there's someone else they would rather see gone. They'll also block you if they have a hint that you are retiring or in the process of finding another job. The company would rather have you leave for free.

A couple of answers.

Yes, your manager can block someone who volunteers. "Critical need".

Yes, you can be laid off if you don't volunteer. This is actually most common.

Does my manager have the right to block my hand raising? I need to decide what to do today.

I am at an SPS site (small but active I think) and I got the email. If I don’t volunteer does that mean I could get let go? Not sure what to do.

Very disappointed with Honeywell. Its Nov many people now avoid taking the vacation for Winter Break because of this. I hope we all survive from this

Not sure if getting the email is a warning of things to come. Asking around, it seems like most of the people in my office received the email. Didn't seem to matter the role, tenure, or paygrade.

Also total coward move on Honeywell's part to announce the RIF on a Friday after (East Coast) working hours. Must have been hoping the anger would simmer down by Monday so we'd keep making that money in the meantime.

Yes I also received the email regarding volunteering Layoffs. Im Screwed

Volunteers have always got the same as non-volunteers.
2 weeks for the first year and 1 week for each additional year paid severance and insurance. Min of 4 weeks.

I won't hold out for the 401k match. It's .875 / $1 for 8% of your income. That's only 7% of your total income. You'll make that up in less than 4 weeks of severance. 7% of a year is 3.64 weeks

I didn't get the email. Honeywell is going to make me leave on my own and I won't get the going away present. Bummer.

Are they offering any benefits to those who leave voluntarily?

If you got the email, volunteer! Best choice you'll ever make. Best deal you'll ever get.

SPS IGS Factory in Poland Katowice is reducing staff by 60 people, which is about a half of staff.

@3idi What is this "vacation pay" that you speak of?

by

Post ID: @3qkq+1jn1N5VR

Next week in Danville is inventory. The week after is another furlough. I'm guessing 11/14. Since many save vacation for the end of the year, that saves H'well a pantload on Holiday pay, vacation pay and 401k matching. The dark souls have to be drooling over that prospect.

The rumor going around my site is either 10/31 or 11/14 for SPS round 3.

LOL, just simply not pay 401k matches for one particular business group? yeah lets see how that goes. There are still a few of us that are doing the vast majority of the actual work lefts, who would be gone if that happens. Nice troll.

The layoffs seem to be ongoing, I know at least 2-4 people per week in our group alone since the last round. Whether they commit to another large batch for Q4 I don't know but there is certainly some wild speculation going on of late. I have my suspicions what is around the corner, I mean the clown show that has been SPS leadership for the last few years can only end one way. I keep hearing of major change next year, divestments ?? Who knows??

That's the whole reason the structure it that way. They as a company want to reserve the right to sc--w you at the end of the year. The match isn't yours until its paid. They only need to make the announcement prior to the date they committed to. I'm so glad I've been out of there for several years now.

I've heard that to save on 401K payouts, Honeywell is simply not going to payout the 401K match for Intelligrated. I kind of can't see how they could do that, but I'm not going to doubt anything at this point of insanity. It would fit the mold of Honeywell punishing employees for executive management misconduct.
