Verizon just announced 5k downsizing effort. ATT has to follow as we are directly competing.

I wouldn't way they "just" announced it. It was announced last September that they would be eliminating ~4800 and it cost them nearly 2B in severance with the last of them hitting the door later this month. So weird that they would now be hiring T people. I would not go to Verizon expecting any kind of job security; they're like a revolving door of hiring and firing.
Yes. ATT has to follow the market. In other words, follow the crowd and do what everyone else is doing under the guise of competing. God forbid they actually build and foster a workforce that is above and beyond what everyone else is doing and make the ATT workplace the place to be. God forbid they offer better benefits, better pay, and more exciting and interesting opportunities borne out of innovation and vision. The current "leadership" just wants to follow everyone else. This is why ATT is third in the market; it is a follower rather than a leader.
Always good to get rid of unneeded workers. Shouldn't be paying for workers when there isn't work for them to do.
T's been laying off since Randall Stephenson's bad purchase decisions that resulted in extreme debt.
The RTO is just another job abandonment scheme and doesn't require termination pay.
Dinosaurs. AI will make needed improvements...
The Vz layoffs mentioned here were the results of last year's volunteer offer. Most employees left in September, but there were some in December with the final stragglers end of March. These aren't new layoffs.
Funny because they’re actively hiring. Ask me how I know.
Good luck to all thinking of applying there. LOL
