Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Six months of job searching and nothing

I’m completely demoralized. I want to leave T so badly, but there seems to be nothing out there. I’ve widened my search, tried to think outside the box, been really dedicated, and so far, I’ve only received two offers—neither of which are even worth considering. I hate feeling cornered with no options; it makes this job even more unbearable. Has anyone had any positive experiences?

I just got picked up by Verizon. 20% increase in pay and only 2 days in the office per week.

If you are having a difficult time finding a new job, it’s not the market, it me you.

No one wants a slob who’s lazy.

Make yourself presentable, have a skill set, and you’ll have no issues. I know what the average ATT employee looks like and how they perform. If you’re the average, yea it’s going to be more difficult, but if you got your Sh-it together, you’ll be fine.

Cya!

I don’t know anyone I would recommend either. Maybe 1 but they are in a solid hub and not at risk.

“ I would never recommend hiring any coworkers in my department at other companies”

That must be a gem of a “team” LOL. Anyway, I have like 3-4 out of 10 that are real strong performers that I would recommend. The rest just coast along for the most part and a couple are completely worthless…and it’s a miracle they’re still here.

"With so many people searching, you may have to apply to 200+ openings to just get close to an offer. "

^^^ This is not the way to land a new job. It is a complete exercise in futility. ^^^^^

Your best bet is to build and maintain your personal network and hopefully one of your buddies will pull you into their company.

^^^ This is the ONLY real path to success^^^^ It amazes me, but the common theme from everyone that talks about unsuccessful months and years long job searches is that they seem to be just blindly applying to places with no connections on the inside. It is ALL about your personal network. That is how people get hired, plain and simple. And you don't have to be best buds with the hiring manager, but hopefully someone that you know on the inside or has hand walked your resume to them, saying hey, we should have a closer look at this guy. That is how it's done. If you have worked 25-30 years at T and you have no personal network, you have kept in touch with no one that left T and went to work elsewhere...it could be that you're just an a$$wipe too.

The RTO mandate was announced two years ago. Why are you just now looking for a new job? You’ve had more than enough time.

“Mean Street” is one of VH’s most underrated tunes IMO.

Many people have successfully transitioned to new roles after a long job search. Some have even reported that the wait was worth it, as they ended up in a better position than they would have if they had settled for something earlier.

Keep in mind that it's a numbers game, and it might take some time to find the right opportunity. But with persistence, patience, and the right strategy, you can increase your chances of success. Don't give up hope, and try to stay positive – a new opportunity might be just around the corner.

I searched for a year after I was “surplussed” in 2023 with no luck. The job search process is different than it used to be. With so many people searching, you may have to apply to 200+ openings to just get close to an offer. Lots of fake job postings and AI screeners make it more difficult. Your best bet is to build and maintain your personal network and hopefully one of your buddies will pull you into their company. That, and get up to speed on how to use AI in your job.

If T is a listing on your resume, remove that $#!?. That is likely leading to immediate left swipes.

Welcome to the job search grind. Don't be fooled—the reality is, if you don’t know the hiring manager, your chances are slim. Too many job postings out there are ghost listings, and most of the time, they're just for show. The hiring manager already has someone in mind, and the HR process is just a formality.

I won’t even bother telling you to “network”—it's become a tired buzzword that no one really wants to engage with anymore.
