Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Free coffee

What’s the deal with the “free coffee” shoutout at every town hall? Is it a callback to an inside joke, like “let them eat cake”, or do they seriously think it’s a culture marker or differentiator in the market? Free coffee in the office has been a thing for decades in any decent company.

I left the company last year for another and the coffee is delicious. Not only that, but town hall meetings never mention it, or the fact that it’s free. Not everywhere is bad.

Starbucks is oily greasy sh-yte. Robin keep your disgusting diarrhea inducing free coffee. Give us the money it costs the bank per person each year instead.

My location never gave free anything so it’s interesting to see how much we got sh-t on compared to other locations with their free coffee, starbucks, donut day and everything else

Haha. I’m not a fan of Starbucks so I haven’t been to the new PIttsburgh one, but are you serious… A BNY employee if they go to the one in the building pays more than you would if you go to a different Starbucks?

While they give NY free Starbucks, they are charging Pittsburgh an up fee on the Starbucks they put in our building. Seriously. It’s about a dollar more per drink than other Starbucks locations. Can’t make this stuff up.

@bp+1jnnsn03r Must be nice! They should be treating all locations equally!

Only those that work in NYC truly get the reference. They have an actual Starbucks at the headquarters where everyone gets free Starbucks. Not that single serve Aramark stuff we have everywhere else. Nice employee savings right? You figure it’s prob saving them $5-7 a day. Adds up to a nice chunk of change!

They honestly think it’s a major flex to give people free coffee. I can’t wait to retire.

You do not work here and you know zero about this company. You have a polyp in your skull.

You've hit the nail on the head. It's totally a "let them eat cake".
Pay not keeping up with inflation but have a free coffee the days you spend 2 hours plus commuting to an office to be on teams calls with people in other countries.

From the posts here we generally are mo--ns. We are clearly not hiring bright operations staff.

It’s just free coffee. No need for you to lose it over free coffee.

He seriously thinks we are total mor-ons. He thinks he is showing benevolence and kindness with this ridiculous token. He is into ‘bread and circuses’. Keep these slobs fat d-mb and happy is his meaning. It is patronizing, crude and disrespectful actually. Further proof this company is very poorly run. And yes, you can best believe it is an inside joke with he and his directs. ‘Watch me mention free coffee again and see the clapping , barking seals at the next town hall’
