Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

March 14th Leg T Surplus Announcement

Because it has proven to be a fact that the company can get away with having worker numbers lower than "the watermark", the company will continue downsizing the Leg T union workforce on the next announcement date which is March 14th per contract and all the grievances, protests, activism, moderation, mediation, thoughts and prayers in the world won't stop it from happening. The company holds all the cards thus all the power, and they're continuing work task movement to automation and off-shoring while the workers and their union simply no longer have the power to stop it. The best thing for the workers is they'll get the lucrative termination package per their contract while this ends up being pennies on the dollar cost for the company to get rid of old and expensive workers with a win/win/win deal.

OP heard these rumors from low level minions in Dallas C-suites talking DOGE Musket cuts in coming weeks.

I don’t know why these rumors are so persistent. Leg T is safe until the contract expires. Currently the powers that be are too busy punishing the South East employees for going on strike. There were 60 people hired in Michigan albeit at a lower pay scale than when it was moved from T five years ago, but none the less the work is returning from the southeast and 135 people in Florida are now out of jobs as no follow the work was offered. So much for fighting for good paying jobs when AT&T can just move it to other centers at a lower titles while the union rolls over and does nothing.

So many of us want to be laid off soon and we will just hang out until we are paid to leave.

No bubble burst here - simply the fact is that the worker number on the Leg T contract is currently below the watermark and that number is most likely continuing downward as more work is moved to cheaper labor. And no actions can stop it.

Hate to bust your bubble but the company does not hold all the cards or power. They are still regulated and must maintain a network as seen by what happens with recent 911, cell, internet outages and hacks. They are investigated by the federal govt. and a lack of proper maintenance and competent workforce will bite them in the assets.

In the Leg T contract, surplus numbers equal the number of workers offered Voluntary Termination Package or VTP by seniority, and because there are so many who want the VTP, this process ultimately gets rid of the oldest, mostly white workers, so the company benefits in many ways by offering the VTP.

Have you asked your supervisor if you are going to be surplussed on March 14th?

"It's a proven fact that AT&T has too many workers and needs to right size."

Please provide the link to that proof, or STFU!

most of the leg t work is being done by overseas personnel. so most of the leg t layoffs will be overseas.

Yup. Before the D3 strike, there were teams that barely had enough orders/tickets to keep them busy through lunch. Can't imagine they've gotten any busier. I think T is just hoping more of the old timers (the ones pushing for more pension contributions that only benefitted those with 15+ years) will retire. Because it costs arms and legs to lay off union. T just biding their time on less costly attrition.

If T has too many workers, then why is it allowing union personnel to work only 2-3 hours per day and rarely have enough work for a full 8 hour day? T management thinks it has the correct amount of union workers because nothing is ever being said about downsizing. Even when you ask your supervisor if there is a possibility of layoffs, they say no chance because we're gonna get busy, but in reality never do. Same thing day-after-day, very little work and union personnel sitting around. Gotta love the way this company is mismanaged!

You are assuming that all Leg T employees only handle Leg T "work". That just isn't true. Leg T long distance customers have been handled by overseas workers exclusively for years. Most all Leg T employees do the same work as other union employees. Just get paid less. lol That is why we have to wait for the surplus payout so we can make up being paid less for all these years.

Thanks, that’ll teach us, you win. I will happily admit I am not a nano bot machine and that I have needs of a human. I cannot work each and every day of my life in “machine mode” with the efficiency of an assembly line. Sometimes I need to eat, pi$$ and $hit. Some days I wake up sad due to a family loss or sick due to cold. Good luck reducing our workforce and lining your pockets with additional millions. But shame on you for your mismanagement and the required need to discard as many human beings as you possibly can. Your Mom and Dad are not proud of you. God certainly cannot be pleased with the hardships you place on others. We will all be on the other side in a few decades but it’s very likely that we will be in very different places. I wish you good luck on your path and that you may find your way to a place of giving rather than taking.
