Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I'm FREE!

I got a slack from my director and I am feeling WOOT WOOT! I grinned from ear to ear during the 7 minutes we chatted. I had been praying! I'm 56. FTMO.

So if you care to find me, look to the western sky! As someone told me lately everyone deserves a chance to fly!

I felt that way (I'm Free...) with my last company when I got the boot with severance. I remember the feeling, trying to look at least a little sad on the outside when they told but feeling completely overjoyed inside.

I only pray & hope that I saved a job for someone who needed it. Look-it won't be ez for me. But after 11 years & people who believed in me all gone-welp-it's ok. But my job was not ez. 12-18 hour days, working vaycay, expected plus more? You want it? Have at it. Enjoy.

@cit+1jp1liRu I looked at this once before, in a smaller company without mass layoffs you may be able to negotiate severance but you are an at will employee, you can leave whenever you want and vz can let you go whenever they want. You can try but my fear would be that they let you go with nothing, they don’t have to pay severance. I don’t think they would do that but this all comes down to HR.

Can you hold out for three weeks pay for each year worked up to 1 full years pay? It's the least they could do, ain't no companies hiring through the end of 2022. With all the cash Verizon is saving, it's the least they could do.

Why not me! Been asking for a RIF package all year. I'm sure someone on the list would rather not go - I'd be delighted to take their place. :-(

Are they offering a good package at least?

On payroll to Dec 31

In the VSP my colleague was made to work up to & including their last day

I'll do what I need to do for me

Lawyering up to review the papers

Do not be sorry-I am elated. I lacked the courage & wherewith-all. I learned how not to be bullied. I learned to speak up & stand up for myself.

I felt the exact same way in 2018 and haven’t given vz a second thought since, just came back here to see if RIF rumors from friends were true, the absolute best is when the director calls you scrambling to cover the job you did, I hadn’t spoken to a director in 25 years to that point and all of a sudden my job was important, LOLOLOL, that’s the best and only memory of the place, haha. Enjoy.
