Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

CS downsizing American workforce

The CISO and Entourage are in India right now talking about how they are going to lead the way for cyber security as they downsize the American workforce to analyst level positions.
The thought is to save the bank money while keeping the best practices for security moving forward without resistance for the bank.
Management is expected to cut 1/4 of their American workforce across the board under cyber security and those positions they once fulfilled will be reopened for India personnel TV brought in under.
If you're an American remote Manager the exceptions you got to stay employed are now revoked only the Indian remote managers get to stay under cybersecurity line of business.
With American economic crisis, loss of stock, etc. The decision has been made that cybersecurity can no longer afford to keep as many Americans under their line of business as they do for the pay that they have been giving them.

I work in App Security as a Lead Application champion. And I am preparing to resign in 3 months time as are two others.
This is a corrupt mindless environment.

And our great CISO’s name in the WF directory and in LinkedIn is different from his real name.
What should lying do?

Fire the CISO

You don’t just put an app in the cloud and it magically becomes secure. The apps being put in the cloud are not all supposed to be publicly accessible. You need to set up controls in the cloud, just like on prem, to secure apps.

Cloud is only renting the compute and storage. SaaS like ServiceNow are contract deals for access to the software. And even then it is the responsibility of Wells Fargo employees to limit who can access those SaaS apps (IAM in Cyber).

To the business side, IT is a hated, bloated expense. The business hates funding IT. To IT, Cyber is a hated, bloated expense. IT hates funding Cyber. Once Cyber was put under IT this was all inevitable.

Wells is sending the jobs, w/ the money overseas to a country that is part of the BRIC coalition. Look up what BRIC is trying to do. Not US friendly. We are sleeping with the enemy.

Wells Fargo is an anti American company. Once you accept this then everything else falls into place.

@cw+1jp36gvds agreed. Better leadership including oversight is needed. Strong architecture would help.

Here is my issue. India is not exactly a US Allie. Yes American companies are there but they are better friends with our adversaries than the US. I think it is dangerous bot trust them with the too much. I understood the development and codes were not in India. Low risk fine. I am waiting for Russia China US war and see who India aligns with.

@ab+1jp36gvds But they are having problems migrating all their apps to the cloud. One poster talked about running out of storage space in a data center. Security, fail back BCP are other features that you are suppose to get. But you can't get it if your apps are not there.

There is a US-wide (and worldwide) shortage of cybersecurity talent, which drives up salaries. It's a very high pressure job requiring long hours. On paper it makes sense to try and transfer more responsibilities to India to save money but the challenge will be in obtaining the same level of responsiveness, ownership and service.

The CISO is Indian. Indians have shown they only hire Indians. It’s no surprise Cyber will offshore more.

LOL, that’s why there are certifications for Azure Security, Google Cloud Security, and Amazon Web Services Security. Cloud is not inherently secure.

So who is getting secret payoffs to their Indian bank accounts to offshore jobs to India?

Someone didn't take the MS cloud training class. One of the selling points of cloud is that you outsource your overpaid InfoSec department to the included costs of the cloud provider.
