I’m known for coming into office mid day and leaving at the end of my shift. Security gave me a heads up of the new chip badges coming saying they’re more advance and can track how long we are in office. Does anyone have any info on the new badges or uses them already and does the same?

I never picked up my new badge. Received a message that my new badge was "on the way". then "delivered" to my "office" -- which I have not been to in years.
So there it sits. (I guess)
I will never return to the office. Still over-performing, over-producing, Exceeding every day, got a raise in Feb and full bonus.
My manager is intimidated b/c I know more than him. They can let me go any time they want. I stopped caring a long time ago, but happy to earn and take the check as long as it lasts.
I don't need to be in no stupid office surrounded by people I don't even work with to Deliver Responsible Growth.
I do more -- and more efficiently -- for our business and our clients with my laptop.
If they want to take 3 hours out of my day to go into some office and have me produce less for the company, then they are even more stupid than we thought.
Seems to be a lot of misinformation and worthless information on this thread. Here’s some clarity.. you guys may have not noticed but they installed new doors in all of our buildings in Charlotte over the last year. The new badge has a RFID transmitter. They have been tracking movement through buildings and obviously when you leave, this is to catch the people who swipe and drive away. Slack at your own peril.
Maybe it was just time to upgrade the cards if they wanted to add more functionality. My card is 15 years old.
Do the old cards have a battery of some kind that powers the software and radio once it gets activated by a reader? Batteries die eventually.
Someone said that they wanted to use the new cards as part of 2FA for computer access. The local hospitals have that, where if the person holding the card walks away the computer automatically goes into lock mode. So you need the card as your “something to have” in security terms.
We already have printers that are activated by the badges.
RFID chips do not change very often. Typically the manufacturer will produce a new card variant when tighter security and encryption changes. Most large companies have a regular schedule to replace all cards due to the amount of cards that were not turned in by ex-employies, contractors, and vendors.
What may be changing is the backend software on the servers. I have not researched this yet but it is possible to track an rfid chip. Virtually anyone can do it now. HF chips can be read only a few feet away under perfect conditions. However the UHF chips can be read up to 30ft provided good conditions and no interference in the 800 to 900 mHz frequency range. Cell phones and large radio networks also use the same frequency spectrum.

It’s called Human Capital.
If you're still talking in terms of "shifts" maybe you should be tracked.
Soon you will use your card to login like ubi key. Notice the card slot on the laptop? Also new Wi-Fi will be able to track rfid on card. Get a rfid sleeve soon.
Got my new badge 2 months ago. Haven’t used it once. I didn’t activate it. I keep it in my wallet between other rfid cards (supposedly that helps), but I badge with my old one. I also only badge in once. I walk around the floor to get to bathrooms and don’t go back downstairs.
How long can I continue to use the badge I was already using? I received my new badge 3 months ago and just haven't activated it yet.
The new badge will be required
Can you just continue to use the badge you were already using?
We are no different than cattle on a farm!!
this is more than that, new RFID readers are capable of tracking your movements while in the office and gather metrics, this will help create your productivity profile.
big brother is watching your restroom visits
Don’t really need a new chip, your login IP can be tracked anytime…..(i tested it)
So when you login your HVD or laptop at office and when you logoff will tell the management how long you stay
I hate back to office :)
To clarify since someone assumed time is being stolen…. I either come in before my shift and leave on lunch or come in on my UNPAID lunch and leave when my shift is over.
This is not a forum for stealing time from the company. Go to reddit for this.
If you can't work the time, change the design
What does the blocker commented above do? I’m not really tech savvy lol
don't forget to buy RFID blocking card holder, it does amazing things.
Yep big brother
