@gp+1jp7sdxxf - true! Pure accounting tricks.

There is a back-and-forth betw Finance and each LOB to "arrive" at the desired number each quarter.

Plus, balance sheet shennanigans moving around a few assets each quarter for the boost.

Pretty sure this holds true for every big public company.

'everyone i used to turn to as a last resort has vanished'

Of course they have. If they were willing to stop their workflow to assist you, they were likely the type to do that for anyone desperate enough.

Guess what that means? Lower performance metric (since good will isn't measured) which leads to a layoff or firing.

This is why things have gotten so bad as of late. People see what the systems are measuring, and they do whatever it takes to make that look good.

Here's an off-the-wall example:

There are 10 reports to be created.

Some are longer than others.
Some are shorter than others.

And yet, the length of the report doesn't determine how long it takes to complete.
Instead, its something small, like, one report requires talking to people and another does not. But this is not measured, therfore, some people may only deal with those reports that dont require to talk to people since, people can take days to reply to questions.

So those reports are skipped, and the guy doing the others has nearly 5x the number of reports done. Thefore, they doesn't sidetrack themselves with helping desperate people, becouse then they'd lag whenever it comes time to pick which reports to do.

So when that who sideracks themselves to help you? that person is now stuck with the reports that take longer and now, when performances are measured - despite doing the harder reports AND going out of their way to help you, they are seen as the weakest.

Take that person out of the equation and then suddenly it seems like everyone wants a raise and is overworked. Shocker

"stock price is acceptable"

apparently the only thing that matters nowadays
too bad people can't see that it is just a number that can easily be fudged

It will continue as long as the lights can be barely kept on and the stock price is acceptable.

It can continue as long as you work there.

Or, you can quiet quit, coffee badge, and get caught in the next round of layoffs.

Up to you really....
