If the manager promised that you would be safe...

would you believe him?

NO.

I work for another tech company than once had a VP come into our office and publicly state that there were no layoffs planned after a reorganization announcement. A few days later, thousands were laid off.

ACT 2016 was a complete disaster on all fronts, from planning, execution to aftermaths, no wonder the company never recovered.

I would probably feel somewhat safer, at least up until the point that my manager himself gets laid off.

But right now, I doubt there's a manager at Intel who knows what cuts they will be forced to make in 2023.

@1ffr+1jpXC1TN The managers gave Stock Level per usual with ZERO knowledge SL4 would be used the way it was. BK and his slimy HR waited until focal was done and only about 3 days before those folks were perp walked did the managers find out. Ask me, I was a manager then. Very sleezy operation.

@qok+1jpXC1TN. The managers definitely decided who to go in ACT 2016. The elimination was based on the 2015 FOCAL results with the famous SSL4 as one of the criteria. It was always the first level managers who conducted the FOCAL.

Where is the $600M for restructuring? Can you share a link?

In 2016 the layoff was done by Bain by numbers, with no input from the manager. People got involuntary separation that the manager argued should not have. Some were "saved" and some could not be saved. Rinse and repeat - don't expect your manager to know who will get the axe. Intel booked $600M for restructuring (for the layoff) according to the financials. In Q2 2016, the restructuring was at $1.2B with a target of 11,000 employee reduction (they got 15K). So it looks half as brutal as 2016, not allowing for inflation on the 2016 numbers to bring them up to 2022. Dust off the resume and don't be afraid of change. Good luck!

I am a manager and I have no idea what criteria will be used and who will be affected. Unless your manager is PG, they most likely don’t know either.
I am updating my resume and LinkedIn. Never assume you are safe, I don’t.

If your a skilled employee with a good attitude your chances are a lot higher than some of the id--ts that made it past the fence line.

I have checked with a few friends what their managers are saying. Every manager has told that their group will not be impacted, but other groups will be impacted !!!. So, I will not believe what managers say.

Also, even if you can believe what he says for the current round of cuts, the cuts are going to continue till 2025. Even if weescape this round, we dont know what next quarter targets will be. He/She may not even know what is coming next quarter!
