@p8 You are primed to be a user of AI. No need to go thru the nerds for your command.

Op - it is not a generational thing. The problem is big banking is not bothered to innovate because regulation protects us from threat of new efficient entrants. And to tell you the truth, I have made a success of my 30 year career by knowing who not to pi-s off, who to cultivate and who to write off. I have never given a sh-t about excel macros or their alternatives and it has saved me a ton of time. These days I go for months without having to open even a single spreadsheet. On the odd chance when I do open a spreadsheet, I usually ask the nerd who made it to summarise the ‘so what’ in PowerPoint. I would strongly recommend people not to waste their time on this low level nerdy nonsense.

No, at this point we will not be exposed to the level of environmental lead at a developmental age that would be needed to transform us into boomers.

Serious question, if not standard office suite stuff, just what should I be doing "my entire job" on? Believe it or not OP, not all of us are in tech or use/need proprietary/LOB specific software.

Strong agree, OP. For such weak skills they sure do have huge chips on their shoulders. Just look at the weird caveman English comments on this post.

I am “upskilling” learning to better use Excel, PowerPoint and Pronect because my new management chain is obsessed with spreadsheets and presentations instead of using the Agile tools.

@a8

Congrats on your impending retirement, but you might want to dial back on the haughty, "I'm in, close the hatch" type of pompousness, regarding your soon to be exiting from the rat-race; because you haven't factored in the most important part of retirement: your HEALTH.

You might find a certain type of freedom when you retire, but don't assume that your health will be included with that. Life can take some rather sudden, sharp, twists and turns, and in some cases, cliff-dives when it comes to health.

Karma.

Try being more humble and helpful, especially when reaching and during retirement.
No one likes an arrogant oldster.

Please don’t summon the boomer victim complex, OP. The economy is still feeling the effects of their snowflake voting in November.

Hmmm. New tech. Mean PowerBI or tableau. REALLY. Now if you are talking about AI then i would say you need to change careers because that is going to replace you in the next 6 years. Lucky for me i will be happily in retirement. You wont make it to 55 at this rate. Sometimes it is great to get older. Guaranteed medical care at medicare prices vs 1500 to 2000 premiums, was able to stay employed through 60’s because AI has not eliminated most tech jobs but will and no more worry about lay offs.

As an older and I guess entitled employee that frequently uses both successfully, what do you recommend I learn to “upskill”?
