Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is the purpose of all of these drastic measures?

I’m struggling to understand why they are implementing such crazy measures such as RTO, hours tracking, metrics tracking, etc. This is abysmal for productivity and innovation. Feels like corporate su----e for the company.

Because they don't want you paying attention to what's happening in D.C.

“There are quieter periods where you may not need to be sitting around for 40 hours.”
Then you should be volunteering for new projects and assignments. You are a full-time employee.

It’s all about getting the stock price back to $30 by 2027

“To maximize productivity. The level of WFH abuse became more quantified during COVID. Only about 15-20% of employees were putting in a minimum 40 hours of actual work. ”

Completely ignorant and wrong. The whole 5x8 thing is incredibly d_mb for ‘management’. It’s solely designed to get rid of people.

Work fluctuates. There are quieter periods where you may not need to be sitting around for 40 hours and there are crazy times where you are working nutty hours that are more efficient without a stupid commute. What this is doing is telling people the only goal is hitting that time. 8 and skate and be sure you fa-t around in the office long enough to get counted.

If we really wanted to break this place we could simply ‘work to rule’ during the crazy times like say between the announcement of the new iPhone and when it is available to purchase. If everyone who puts in crazy hours to get things set up during that period decided to stop at 8 hours a day we would be destroyed. The geniuses running this place don’t seem to get that. Even threatening that with a unified voice would potentially scare the s_it out of them but it will never happen

Spend some time reading what employees are posting and you will have a better understanding.

“ The only goal is for you to quit. Do you understand?”

Spot on! They’d rather folks “voluntarily” leave so they don’t need to jump thru termination red tape. Either way is good…so long as they can avoid paying severance.

Because the company is paying you to actually work.

You mean like last year when I was working at home on Friday nights and throughout the weekend?

lack of employee response when remote had to be corrected

When in the office I don’t respond immediately to everything

I might be at lunch, the can, a meeting, “collaborating”, or just trying to get some work done without the constant interruptions

It’ is apparently to hard for supervisors to manage people and let them go when they are worthless lumps Instead we all get treated like children

“ Probably because most of the tech industry are doing it and our leadership has always followed what others are doing...and to get people frustrated so they leave.”

More lies 🤡🤡. Keep telling yourself that to feel better rather than face the reality of what’s actually happening.

“…Probably because most of the tech industry are doing it…”

Not accurate. It may “seem” so because a couple big companies are doing so.

But the truth is that most have adopted structured hybrid policies, requiring employees to come into the office on specific days or for certain meetings.

Stop believing what dimwits here tell you.

What is hard to understand about a demographic it is illegal to discriminate against in layoffs but perfectly legal to make miserable enough to quit? If you are over 40 they want you gone.

Weed out the weak. Then go back to WFH.

To find reasons to fire people, make them miserable so they will quit or retire, and just following what the others are doing. Which the others have stated is for the reasons listed above; however, our leaders like to lie and say it’s about productivity. However, the subscriber and sales numbers are down, so it ain’t working if that the reason.

To maximize productivity. The level of WFH abuse became more quantified during COVID. Only about 15-20% of employees were putting in a minimum 40 hours of actual work. The amount of remote, idle connections and lack of employee response when remote had to be corrected. These boards have proven why 5x8 has been implemented.
